You do not need a Covid test to enter Mexico, however, we do recommend you get a test before traveling. In order to LEAVE Mexico and enter the United States, a negative COVID test is required for anyone ages two and over, and regardless of vaccination status. Air passengers are required to take a viral test (PCR/NAAT or rapid antigen test) no more than THREE calendar days prior to their flight departure to the United States. Antibody tests are not compliant with the requirement. Passengers must provide written documentation of their laboratory test result (paper or electronic copy) to the airline prior to boarding. We HIGHLY recommend that you get a COVID test in town the day before you depart for your flight. They do have rapid antigen testing at the Puerto Vallarta airport (Rapid Antigen Test - $22 USD) but to save your sanity & to save yourself from potentially missing your flight- please get tested ahead of time. See next question for how to get tested in Sayulita.

Yes. If you need to apply for a passport, please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply.html IMPORTANT!!!!! If you already have a passport, make sure it doesn't expire within 6 months. Mexico requires you to have at least 6 months validity on your passport before expiration.

Sayulita is such a small town that regardless of where you stay, everything is within 15 minutes walking distance. There are no large hotels, so we aren't able to do a room block. If you found a hotel or rental that you like, but are feeling unsure, please contact Cassie or Aaron so we can help you out!
YES! Sayulita is very safe. Like anywhere you go, just use common sense and be careful with protecting your valuables and yourself. Tourism drives the local economy, so residents are very welcoming and English is widely understood.
Pesos. Our best recommendation is to exchange your dollars to pesos at either a local Cambio (bank) in Sayulita or at an ATM. This is where you'll get the best exchange rate. There is an ATM at the Mercado de Pueblo in town. Cambio's are safe, and from our research, ATM's are very safe in Sayulita. However, "skimmers" can be installed anywhere and everywhere, including in the US. It's best to use an ATM within a local business. Avoid the ones on the street. If you don't want to exchange a bunch of money, CREDIT CARDS are also accepted in Sayulita- but not at all establishments. If you use a credit card, make sure you are using a card that does not have any foreign transaction fees!!! IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT exchange your dollars at the airport exchange when you arrive in Puerto Vallarta- this is usually the worse exchange rate you can get.
No. However, when ordering a glass of water (un vaso de agua) at a restaurant, they should serve you filtered water. If you want to specify- say "un vaso de agua filtrada". Ice should be fine, as this usually comes from filtered water sources. For your hotel or rental, we recommend you stock up on bottled water.
You can walk to almost anywhere in Sayulita! However, many tourists rent a golf cart for the week. You can set up a golf cart ahead of time using Sayulita Suburban Services (please see Travel section to find link to this website). If you plan to explore the nearby towns around Sayulita, we recommend you rent a car. Renting a car can be tricky in Mexico. The normal "brand name" car rental companies (think Avis, Hertz, etc) aren't the same as in the US- they are owned independently. These companies often advertise SUPER low, enticing rates- and they hit you with hefty hidden fees. Your best bet will be to rent from Gecko Rent-A-Car- highly reviewed, local company with no hidden fees. For additional transportation information, see this website: https://www.sayulitalife.com/taxi_transportation
The average high is 86°, average low 69°. Monsoon season ends in October, but there may be a chance for showers in mid-November. That being said, make sure your hotel has Air Conditioning, and bring a rain jacket or umbrella.
We know that T-Mobile has coverage (at no additional cost) in Mexico. For other carriers, please contact your service provider. If you know you will not have coverage, download What'sApp on your phone to call & text for free over WiFi.
Montezuma's Revenge = diarrhea, stomach illness sometimes obtained when traveling abroad, often caused by contaminated water, poor food handling, and poor sewage systems -avoid drinking tap water -when at restaurant, clarify with staff that the ice is made from filtered water. (Haces el hielo con agua filtrada?) or if you want it without ice, say "sin hielo" -stock up on bottled water -brush your teeth with bottled water! -wash all fruits and vegetables with a solution before eating! At the market, you can buy Microdyn and Bacdyn. See this website for other solutions and cleaning tips: https://kathleeniscookinginmexico.wordpress.com/2010/05/24/how-to-clean-and-disinfect-fruits-and-vegetables-in-mexico/#:~:text=Produce%20can%20also%20be%20cleaned,and%20then%20rinse%20in%20water. - you can take 500mg Pepto Bismol, 4 times a day to PREVENT traveler's diarrhea. This prevents around 60% of cases. If you are on any other medications, please consult your doctor before doing this.
