Brendan was busy bouncing around the country at writing residencies (last seen in Vermont, headed to Arizona then Puerto Rico then New Mexico), working on his master's thesis/novel. He was soon graduating from the Institute of American Indian Arts then needed to find a "more permanent" home. Lauren was living in Queens, about to spend the summer at a civil rights law firm in Washington D.C., and just committed to a job in Nashville starting the following year. She had plans to take the NY Bar Exam then live in Mexico City or Colombia for a few months before her Nashville move. So, obviously, we met in Utah. Sam and Annie were getting hitched, and we both of course had to be there. Both needing to save some money, Sam recommended we share a house for the weekend. By Sunday we were joking about getting married. By Monday morning, Brendan had booked his flight to NYC for May so we could see each other again. (but we just couldn't wait that long, so he ended up coming to NYC in April, too).
