Frontenac State Park is a state park of Minnesota, on the Mississippi River 10 miles southeast of Red Wing. The park is notable both for its history and for its birdwatching opportunities, and more than 260 bird species have been seen here. The centerpiece of the park is a 430-foot-high, 3-mile-long steep limestone bluff overlooking Lake Pepin, a natural widening of the Mississippi.
Located near the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, the state fair is a cherished end-of-summer tradition. The Great Minnesota Get-Together welcomes 2 million guests annually to a world-class showcase of agriculture, entertainment, food, art, science and industry. Perennially popular are the 500 food items (more than 80 on-a-stick); 900 free entertainment shows; rides; and Minnesota craft brews and wines.
Spanning nearly 20 picturesque miles between Red Wing and Cannon Falls, the Cannon Valley Trail gives bikers panoramic views of the Cannon River Turtle Preserve and multiple archaeological sites. Head out on 2 wheels for a leisurely 4-hour ride, or spend the full day cruising the charming views of bluff country.
The cliff showcases a spectacular view of the Mississippi River on one side and Red Wing on the other. On the south side, you will experience a beautiful trail through a scattering of trees and on the north side, a more thickly wooded, rocky trail wedged between the Mississippi and the towering bluff.
