The New York Times did some of the work for us on ways to explore and enjoy Durham, NC. Take a look or go with some of our recommendations to fill your weekend!
This is a great website for all things Durham. Find some good eats, shopping, nature, nightlife, and history about our favorite city!
Well this one is kind of obvious. The Museum of Life and Science is the best children's museum in town, filled with exhibits that are fun for all ages. During the wedding, we'll enjoy some of the exhibits, but to get the whole experience with the kiddos it's worth another day trip during museum hours.
The Duke Gardens is a 55-acre botanical garden, free for visitors after a $2 parking fee. It's a wonderful place for a morning or midday stroll to admire the gardens. Jen used to walk through the gardens every morning on her commute to work at Duke Hospital. Not a bad commute.
Please stop by the Farmers' Market at Duke Central Park on Saturday morning. Our wedding isn't until the evening, so there is plenty of time to enjoy some local artists, grab some local produce or just a pastry. It's definitely a weekend hub for Durham locals and visitors.
Who doesn't love a little fun and games. Grab a beer and some tokens to enjoy some arcade games including pinball, skeeball, DDR, air hockey, etc. You won't be disappointed with their collection and location in town, overlooking the old Durham Bulls Stadium and just a short walk from our welcome drinks at Durty Bull Brewing.
What used to be the old tobacco processing factories of Durham is now a beautiful space surrounding the Lucky Strike water tower. Enjoy some good food and drink at a nearby restaurant, lay in a hammock alongside the beautiful water feature, and stroll through this lovely transformed space.
"The Eno" is a favorite spot of Rafiki's for a weekend hike. In the summertime you can find our Durham friends swimming at Turtle Hole or taking a day hike along Penny's Bend. If you have time and the weather is right, please enjoy this local treasure.
The 21C Hotel Museum is a beautiful and contemporary art museum in the heart of downtown Durham focusing solely on artwork of the 21st century. There is a basement level old vault that you can walk through, or enjoy a cocktail at the modern bar.
Yes, you read it correctly. We have a lemur center in town. Duke University studies, cares, and protects these threatened mammals. You'll need to book in advance if you're interested, but it's definitely a unique spot.
