Growing up Peyton drove by this bridge all the time, and now, after moving to PA, Dylan drives past this bridge every day too. Dylan and Peyton have stopped at the overlook by the bridge many times to just stop and enjoy the view together. It is the world's largest concrete railroad bridge and was built between 1912 and 1915. At one point, this bridge was one of the seven man-made wonder's of the world list but even still is considered the ninth wonder of the world. It stands 2,375 feet long and 34 feet wide and is still being actively used today.
Are you looking for some hillbilly fun? You definitely won't get to experience something like this anywhere else. The Noxen Rattlesnake Roundup will be held by the Noxen Volunteer Fire Company from June 19 6:00 pm to June 22 10:00 pm. Peyton has loved going to this every year and despite the busyness of the wedding weekend, Peyton and Dylan are committed to making it this year. Here's a joke from Peyton's dad Justin: What is 24 feet long and has 2 teeth? The potato pancake line at the Rattlesnake Roundup. For more information, please click on the link to the fire company's facebook or this link to learn about last year's rattlesnake roundup and what there is to do/eat there: https://discovernepa.com/events/fairs-and-festivals/picture-this-2024-noxen-rattlesnake-roundup/
If you are staying near Tunkhannock, this is one of our favorite places to go in the summer where you can swim, fish, brings the dogs, or just relax by the river. As long as the water is not too high, there is a parking area along the side of the Susquehanna River where you can park. We definitely recommend going here if you're looking for a place to relax in nature!
This is Peyton and Dylan's favorite gun store! Often times, Peyton's whole family makes a trip on the weekend there when we have nothing else to do. Let's just say they know Peyton's family by name now. We have also learned some valuable marriage lessons in this store watching how Peyton's mom loves to see Peyton's dad be happy and guns make Peyton's dad happy. Please note: this was not scripted by Peyton's dad.
If you're an ice cream lover like us, we recommend taking a trip to Manning's. There are a couple locations near us but we love going to the farm the best because you get to see the cows! The ice cream is made fresh on the farm and there's so many flavor options to choose from. Whether to get some ice cream to make a birthday cake, for some extra fuel when Peyton and her maid-of-honor ran a half-marathon together, or just a hot day in the summer, this has always been our go-to spot for ice cream.
If your looking to watch a movie, we recommend going to the Circle Drive-In. One of Peyton's uncles used to take her siblings and her here many times growing up and it was always so much fun! Another great memory was when Peyton and Dylan went here together with Peyton's brother Malachi who is one of the groomsmen and Malachi's wife Gabrielle who is Peyton's maid of honor.
The Lakeland Orchard has different seasonal festivals throughout the year, and, during the month of the wedding, there will be the annual strawberry festival. You can pick your own strawberries and enjoy different treats like strawberries slushies, strawberry donuts, and strawberry shortcake. There will also live entertainment and carnival rides. We have not been to the strawberry festival yet but it is on our date-night bucket-list!
This is one of our favorite farmer's markets to go to! They have a variety of produce, baked goods, canned goods, flowers, and more. The area is super cute, including a farm with ducks, which is one of Peyton's favorite parts. The picture above was when we went to the farmer's market to get ingredients to make a farm-to-table dinner for date night.
If you are staying near Tunkhannock and like mini golf or drivings ranges, we recommend going to Harding's. Dylan and Peyton have been here once for food but we hope to go mini-golfing here soon! Considering their track record with mini-golf, Peyton would definitely win. Sorry Dylan.
This is one of our favorite farm stores and you can get most basic groceries here! If you can't make it to the Mannings farm, they also sell Mannings ice cream here by the half-gallon, pint, or scoop. They have plenty of locally sourced food options if you are looking to get some fresh groceries. This has become a staple store in our weekly grocery trip.
The Scranton area was a crucial area during the Industrial Revolution for coal mining, and these mines can still be toured today. The coal mines opened in 1860 and go down as far as 300 feet. While we haven't gotten the chance to do this tour yet, it is on our bucket-list!
Scranton is called the Electric City and it is because it was the first city in the U.S. to have an electric-powered streetcar system. There is a museum that you can visit to learn more about the history of the trolley system and you can go on a trolley ride as well.
