Hearst Castle
A historic landmark - an architectural masterpiece filled with priceless museum artifacts, luxurious pools and scenic overlooks. Owned by famous (infamous?) media mogul William Randolph Hearst - who was the inspiration for Citizen Kane.
Elephant Seal Vista Point
If you like elephants, and you like seals, then San Simeon is the place for you! These blubbery beasts are as loud as they are smelly, but my goodness are they fun to gawk at. The elephant seal vista point is about 5 miles north of Hearst Castle on Route 1.
Hearst Ranch Winery Tasting Room- San Simeon
This is some of Stephanie's favorite wine in the area and the tasting room is in a funky historic general store, complete with a cool little deli for food. You can both peak the castle from here and hear the ocean: two thumbs up.
Piedras Blancas Light Station
This is a historic lighthouse just up the way if you want to do a little learnin' while you're in town.
Nit Wit Ridge
A historical landmark constructed by an eccentric & reclusive artist (aptly named Art). Built from "beer cans, abalone shells, concrete, washer drums, car rims, tile, car parts, and old stoves." Like I said, eccentric.
Madeline's Restaurant & Wine Tasting Room
Totally amazing family-owned French restaurant with beautiful romantic ambiance and stellar food. We're obsessed.
Linn's Restaurant
A real gem. Great food, sinfully delicious pastries (they're famous for their olallieberry pie), quirky knickknacks and a charming small-town atmosphere. You simply can't go wrong.
Robin's
Great food, lovely atmosphere, a local favorite!
Sea Chest Restaurant
If you're looking for a tasty seafood meal, look no further. The Sea Chest is chock full of edible treasures, and is run entirely by pirates, mermaids and Johnny Depp impersonators. That last part may not be true.
Indigo Moon Wine & Cheese Shop
Local and international cheeses, patio seating, wine & craft beer by the glass. Enough said.
Pacific Coast Wine Trail
Enjoy the bounty of wine tasting in the area. Cayucos Cellars, Black Hand Cellars, Moonstone Cellars, Twin Coyotes Winery, Stolo Family Winery, and Harmony Cellars. Pick up their rack card at the Cambria Chamber of Commerce.
Covell’s Clydesdales
Big horsies! This ranch is appointment only, but you can tour the farm or even ride the big guys.
Mozzi's Saloon
A true dive bar in the very best sense of the word.
Firestone Walker Brewing Company
For those who prefer beer instead of (or in addition to) wine, Firestone is the brewery of choice. Fun fact: Firestone is the official beer provider of the Barber wedding!
Tooth & Nail Winery
What's cooler than visiting a CASTLE in Paso Robles? Drinking delicious local wine in said castle. It's like being in Game of Thrones, but with less subterfuge and treachery.

We stopped here on our trip to book the venue, and it's a fun & tasty little alternative to the myriad of wine tasting options in the area
Morro Bay
The crown jewel of the bay is the iconic Morro Rock: a volcanic monolith that can best be described as a big-ass rock. Enjoy hiking, dining, exploring tide pools, and of course, the big-ass rock.
Pismo Beach
Big ol' pier? Check. Monarch butterfly grove? Yup. Sand Dune ATVs? You got it. Dinosaur Caves? Actually... yeah they got those too.
San Luis Obispo

Paso Robles
A beautiful and idyllic town to drink as much wine in as your designated driver will allow. There are innumerable incredible wineries to explore.
Solvang
What a weird and wonderful little pit stop for those cruising up the 1 North. This quaint Danish town is packed with windmills, wineries, craft breweries, boutique shops, and kooky Danish accents.
Santa Barbara
Enjoy sun, sand, surf, and shopping in one of the most picturesque beach cities in the state. Visit the aquarium on the pier - or don't, it's your life.
Big Sur
As if the cliffside drive along the misty 1 weren't spectacular enough, enjoy hiking and camping through state parks, or just being a big ol' beach bum.
