This is where Catie and Ryan spent their 5-year anniversary. You can visit for dinner at Edison or the Sunset Terrace (reservations recommended), or come for a drink in their famous lobby with dual fireplaces or outside on the patio overlooking downtown Asheville. Please note: If you drive to the Inn, there is a $25 fee to self-park in the parking garages or lot outside the Inn, so consider Ubering!
The Biltmore Estate, built by iconic American family George Vanderbilt, is America's largest private home. The estate is beautiful and you could spend an entire day there. Take a tour of the house, stroll around the expansive gardens (with an unobstructed view of the Blue Ridge), or visit Antler Village further down the Estate grounds. Antler Village offers a quaint village atmosphere with several upscale and casual restaurants, a coffee shop and bakery, an ice cream shop, a petting zoo and playground for the kids, and Biltmore's own winery. (P.S. Everyone over 21+ can receive a complimentary wine tasting at the winery with their grounds ticket!)
One of our favorite breweries in the River Arts District right on the French Broad River. It has an expansive lawn with food trucks, outdoor lawn seating, patio seating by the river side, and an indoor hall with dozens of taps. There is a big space in the middle of the lawn seating where you'll see kids (or adults!) playing soccer and football
Take a spin around Asheville on the La Zoom bus! They have several tour options: comedy tour, ghost tour, and brewery tour. All great options, but highly recommend the brewery option (it's called 'The Fender Bender: Band and Beer Bus') as it gives you a chance to see Asheville, visit a few different breweries AND get a DD out of it!
Catie has been coming to Old Europe with her mom, Beth, for quite literally her entire life; it's an Asheville staple and the only problem will be deciding what to get! Catie's sweet tooth has waned in her adult life, but Ryan has a raging chocolate addiction, so he and Beth have bonded over difficult decision-making in the line! There usually is a line, but it moves fast and it's worth it!
This one is for the adventurists: Nantahala is a little bit of a drive, but it is an experience unlike anything else. Experience the mountains in the treetops by ziplining through the mountaintops and across gorges! Note: Not suitable for those with a fear of heights!
This hike is one of the best: it's .6 of a mile each way, moderate intensity, and offers 360 degree views of the mountains! And the drive to get there, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, is pretty stunning too :) If you choose to go, you'll pass the Craggy Garden Visitor Center on the left - keep going to the next turnoff on the left which is the parking lot for the Craggy Pinnacle hike.
