Question

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Answer

That’s totally up to you, but casual is the norm in Hawaii. This is a question that you should ask the bride and groom. Keep in mind that it’s usually in the 80’s during the day year-round in Hawaii. Lighter, looser-fitting fabrics will be more comfortable. Just know that everything goes in Hawaii. The one key thing for attire -- wear flat footwear. Our wedding will be on a sandy beach, so high heels can be dangerous and difficult to navigate in. Flats, sandals without a heel, and even flip flops are definitely the way to go!

Question

HOW DO WE FIND THE CEREMONY LOCATION?

Answer

We’ll provide directions to the ceremony location, which we will forward to you. The location may not have an address but will be on Google Maps. Our email will provide the proper information for you to find the location. Please leave early. You do not want to be late! The ceremony starts at 4:00 PM sharp, Please arrive 15 minutes early!!!

Question

HOW LONG IS THE CEREMONY?

Answer

The wedding ceremony is usually about 15-20 minutes, typically with photos to follow. Most of our weddings and photo shoots are approximately 1-1.5 hours in total. There will be a few group photos following the ceremony and then photos of the couple. Guests are welcome to stay during the couple’s photo shoot to watch, or you can always take some selfies. :-) The Reception venue will be welcoming guests at 6:00 PM, The ceremony will take place at 4:00 PM.

Question

CAN WE TAKE PHOTOS AND VIDEO?

Answer

Yes, but please be mindful of the ceremony, and if their package includes a photographer and videographer, please be careful not to get in the way. If you stand during important parts of the ceremony, there’s a good chance you’ll block the shots, and the last thing you want is your head popping up in the video right before, “you may now kiss the bride!”

Question

WHAT SHOULD WE DO DURING OUR STAY?

Answer

LUAUS LANIAKEA (AKA TURTLE BEACH), NORTH SHORE SEA SPA ISLAND WATER SPORTS HELICOPTER TOUR KOKO HEAD BOTANICAL GARDEN, HAWAII KAI MAKAPU'U LIGHTHOUSE KOKO HEAD STAIRS, HAWAII KAI ALA MOANA CENTER

Question

DO YOU NEED A RENTAL CAR?

Answer

For guests staying at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, your daily amenities fee includes complimentary rides on their trolley, and you can get around Waikiki and the Honolulu area by taxi, Uber, and the bus. However, a rental car allows you more freedom to explore other parts of the island, like the North Shore, Pearl Harbor, luaus, and popular beaches. Hotels charge parking fees, but in some ways, you will save money with a car. For example, the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor is free, but without a car, you’ll need to pay for transportation, which can add up. Same is true for many of the popular island tours and luaus. Also, you can pick up your car rental at the airport, saving you transportation fees to and from your hotel. These are some of the considerations you should think about if you’re on the fence.

Question

UBER/LYFT AND TAXIS

Answer

Both Uber and Lyft operate on Oahu and are popular options. Although taxis are easy to catch in front of hotels and at popular attractions, they are usually higher in cost. Another benefit of Uber and Lyft is that they’ll find you by your phone’s GPS. You just enter your destination on their app. A driver will come to you and take you where you’re going. For short trips around Honolulu, this is a great option. From Waikiki to Diamond Head or Ala Moana Shopping Center, it’s usually around a $10 fare, give or take. We often have couples take an Uber if their wedding venue is near Waikiki. For this, we recommend taking an UberXL or Uber Select for a little more comfort. For locations farther out, it can be expensive. For example, Pearl Harbor is probably a $25-35 Uber trip from Waikiki one-way! The same goes for Hanauma Bay. Uber has a helpful fare estimator on their website if you’re interested in checking some rates.

Question

RENTING A CAR

Answer

If you want to make sure you see most of what Oahu has to offer, renting a car is your best bet. There’s simply no better way to explore. You can rent from all major car rental agencies at the airport, and it’s also possible to rent in Waikiki. To avoid higher prices, we recommend booking a car at least two weeks in advance. Car rentals are not too expensive, but you have to add in daily parking fees. Nearly all hotels in Waikiki charge for parking, which is usually around $30 a day. Although that may sound high, trust me, you don’t want to try street parking in Waikiki. It’s incredibly challenging to find a spot, especially later in the day and on weekends. That said, if you don't rent a car, you'll miss out on the things outside of Honolulu. For example, the North Shore is too far without a car. You could do a "round the island" tour, but it's not the same as hopping in a car and exploring on your own.

Question

BOOKING YOUR FLIGHTS

Answer

From the U.S. mainland, we see the best flights on Hawaiian Air, Delta, and United, depending on your departure airport. Alaska Airlines often offers cheaper rates, but usually worse schedules than the other airlines. Most try and find an early morning departure, which allows you to arrive in Hawaii earlier in the day and then book a return flight in the evening to squeeze as much vacation time in as possible. Most visitors fly into Honolulu International Airport. The airport code is HNL.
