Derick and Amanda met through a dating website called Bumble, where the woman is the first one to message after the match. Amanda asked, "What is something random you are good at?" Derick loved this creative intro and answered that he is good at making barn animal noises like the old Fisher Price animal pull string toys. Amanda said she makes an excellent s'more. After several messages and a phone call, they met on a Monday night at Copper River in Nicholasville. Derick was taken right away, knowing Amanda was the type of woman he wanted to spend time. Amanda thought Derick was nice, but it took a couple weeks for her feelings to catch up. Derick really stood out from the crowd when he sent two dozen roses to Amanda's work for Valentine's Day after only two dates (he only meant to send one, but the florist made a fortunate mistake).
