We met at the Alamo Drafthouse, where Lucas was running orientation. When Autumn walked into the theater and saw him—long hair in a messy bun, sleeves rolled up, perched on the back of a chair—she turned to a friend and said, "Target acquired." Lucas, however, was smart, crass, and not the easiest person to get close to. We built our friendship slowly, bonding over our shared love of adventure and spontaneity—first planning a road trip that never actually happened, but it didn’t matter. By then, the course was already set. Neither of us were looking for something serious—Lucas was moving to San Francisco, and later Nicaragua, and Autumn was rebuilding her life from the ground up. But despite the distance, we kept finding our way back to each other.
