Jenny and Austin knew each other as both childhood and family friends. They were familiar with each other, but never actually dated until Austin left Utah to finish his medical training in California. There began a very long distance relationship spanning 5 years. In the past, Jenny had a crush on Austin because she thought he looked like her favorite Korean actor. Austin always thought Jenny appeared saccharine sweet and shy. While none of these things actually turned out to be true, they realized they were the perfect match for each other.
For a first date, Austin thought it would be a romantic idea to take Jenny to Santa Monica Beach pier for a night of stargazing and constellation mapping (that he pretended to know but had to google the night before). Unbeknownst to Austin, Jenny forgot to wear her glasses that day, so she could literally see nothing but a blank black sky while she was pretending to listen to Austin ramble on about constellations and their origins.
Austin was able to convince a lot of people to basically lie for him, thus proving that if he ever needed help from jail, that these people would be loyal. With the help of the Stanford admin and staff, he was able to stage a fake graduation for the Class of 2021, complete with a formal invite and RSVP confirmation. The day before, he told Jenny that there was an emergency at the hospital, but actually met up with the family, who had flown in earlier that day to practice their hiding spots. Months before the proposal, Austin recruited friends and co-workers to convince Jenny that this was a very formal graduation and that she needed to dress to the nines. They even went so far as to ask to carpool with them to the "graduation," only to cancel the morning of. Once the special day arrived, the hired photographer read his script as the "photographer for the graduation" and led them to a special spot in Stanford Cactus Garden. After posing for pictures, Austin got down on one knee and popped the question. In shock of seeing her family, she initially said "oh no," instead running to her mom and leaving Austin stranded on bended knee. Thankfully, she returned to say YES and now, here they are.
