Travel and Accommodations

The Wedding Website of Sarah Brooks and Austin Liu
We can't wait to see you in September! Martha's Vineyard is a very special spot for both of us, and we are so grateful to everyone for making the journey to celebrate with us! We are looking forward to sharing our special day with the people we love in a place we love! You can reach Martha's Vineyard either by air or ferry. We recommend that you arrange your travel, especially if you plan to fly to the island or bring a car over on the ferry, well in advance. We also recommend reserving your accommodations soon (as in right now). September is high wedding season on the Vineyard, so hotels and rental options will fill up quickly! Recommended hotels and information on AirBnB/VRBO are listed below the travel information. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Sarah if you would like some more information about transportation or lodging. Sarah's email: sarahbrooks1035@gmail.com

Flight

By Air

From the DC Area: After Labor Day there is typically no direct flight to Martha's Vineyard from DC. There are a few connecting flight options to the Vineyard. You can also fly to Boston and take the Peter Pan Bus* to the Woods Hole Ferry Terminal. Another option is to fly to Providence and take a 30-minute Uber to the Vineyard Fast Ferry in Quonset, RI. Advanced booking for the Fast Ferry is recommended. From the NYC area: In September, you can typically fly direct to Martha's Vineyard on JetBlue from JFK or on Cape Air from White Plains. You can also fly to Boston and take a connecting Cape Air flight to the Vineyard or take the Peter Pan Bus* to the Woods Hole Ferry Terminal. If you take a Cape Air flight from Boston to MVY, chances are you will be on a teeny-tiny plane. An awesome or unnerving experience depending on your flying preferences! *Peter Pan offers numerous daily trips to the ferry terminal in Woods Hole, MA (coordinated to ferry departures) from Boston's Logan Airport and South Station. It is about a 1.5-2 hour ride and best to be booked online.

Travel Note

By Sea

The Steamship Authority operates year-round ferry service from Woods Hole, MA to Martha's Vineyard. it's an easy 45-minute ferry ride from Woods Hole across to Martha's Vineyard. Ferries arrive in Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs and tickets for passengers (not vehicles) can be purchased through the Steamship Authority app or at the ticket office either in advance or on-site. Guests not bringing a car on the ferry should check the Steamship's website or hotline for updates on parking in Woods Hole as depending on capacity you will either park in the offsite Palmer Ave or Thomas Landers lot and take a Steamship Authority bus from the lot to the ferry. Parking at Steamship Authority lots is $20 per day. If you are bringing a car on the ferry, make a reservation for both you and your car well in advance. Car reservations for the 2024 season open on January 30th and we recommend making car reservations on that day or as soon after as possible. If you are not bringing a car, you can book your tickets online or in the ticket office when you get to Woods Hole and they are good for a trip any day, any time, either way. Vineyard Fast Ferry offers passenger service from Quonset, RI to Martha's Vineyard (Oak Bluffs). You can fly into Providence, RI and take a 30 minute uber/lyft or car service to this ferry. Advanced booking recommended. The Island Queen operates a seasonal passenger service between Falmouth, MA and Martha's Vineyard (Oak Bluffs). Advanced booking is recommended.

Travel Note

Getting Around the Island

If you are staying in downtown Edgartown, you will not need a car to enjoy the weekend celebrations, as all events will be in Edgartown Village (downtown Edgartown). Please keep in mind, street parking downtown is very limited. If you are planning to bring your car onto the island, we recommend making your reservation immediately. Car reservations for the 2024 summer season will open on January 30th, 2024 and we encourage you to make your car reservations on that date or shortly after. The Steamship Authority is the only car ferry. Biking is a very easy and popular way to get around on the Vineyard. There are bike paths from downtown Edgartown to South Beach (3 miles), Oak Bluffs (6 miles), West Tisbury (10ish miles), and Chappaquiddick, among other spots. We recommend renting your bikes from Wheel Happy in Edgartown. https://wheelhappybicycles.github.io/ Car rentals are available on the island, and we recommend advance booking. You can pick up cars from various companies in Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, or at the airport. The Vineyard Transit Authority bus will reliably get you from the airport, Oak Bluffs, or Vineyard Haven to downtown Edgartown and can be a budget-friendly way to see different parts of the island. The bus fares can be paid using exact change (no change is given by the bus operator but they will give you a card worth the value of any overpayment for use on a future trip) or by downloading their app, VTA Pay, from the app store. A fare from Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven to Edgartown should be about $6. Check out the website for more accurate fare information. You can also purchase a day pass which might be good if you want to use the VTA to see the island: https://www.vineyardtransit.com/sites/g/files/vyhlif5126/f/uploads/how_to_see_the_island_in_one_day_-_shoulder_in-season.pdf The VTA bus drivers should be helpful in guiding you to the right bus and stop for your needs.

House Or Rental

AirBnB, VRBO, or other rentals

You can check out AirBnB, VRBO, or other rental companies that are likely more economical than the hotels. We recommend trying to get a rental in Edgartown Village/Downtown Edgartown so you can walk to the venues. If you do decide to get a rental out of town, make sure to leave lots of time to get an uber or cab to your house and don't count on parking downtown! Note: You may find some rentals located on Chappy. Chappy is short for Chappaquiddick which is an island off the island and is only accessible by the On Time Ferry (a 3 minute ferry ride). We don't necessarily recommend staying on Chappy, but if you are looking into a rental over there and want more information about accessibility from downtown Edgartown, reach out to Sarah at sarahbrooks1035@gmail.com.
