We met in 2022 at JBLM in Washington. Nolyn had a crush on me right away, but since I was his platoon leader, my mindset was all about staying professional. Even then, I couldn’t help but notice his ridiculously charming southern accent from Alabama and the way he always found little moments to make me laugh. Life took me through a few not-so-great relationships, and during that time, he remained a steady, lighthearted presence—always kind, always himself, and never afraid to shamelessly flirt whenever he got the chance. Everything shifted once he left the Army and finally asked me on a date. I said yes, and from that moment on, everything just felt right. He made me laugh, made me feel seen and safe, and genuinely lit up just by making me happy. That’s when I knew—he was the one. From the start, we’ve matched in all the best ways. We’re weird together in the most wonderful sense. Our early days were full of blind karaoke nights, chaotic rounds of Mario Kart and Just Dance, and the sweetest surprises—like him making meals inspired by my favorite video games and shows, from Skyrim to Harry Potter. One time we even drove around with fake mustaches just so we wouldn’t be recognized. Don’t ask. It worked. But beyond all the fun, what makes our relationship so special is how natural it feels. We’re completely ourselves with each other—no pretending, no pressure—just comfort, laughter, and a lot of love. It’s the kind of connection that feels like home. And then, in the middle of a flower garden in Germany, Nolyn proposed. It was beautiful. It was surreal. And it was perfectly us.
