Located just near the amphitheater, Maroon Lake is the starting point for a scenic hike to Crater Lake, nestled at the base of the iconic Maroon Bells. As you begin your walk along the lake, you'll soon see signs guiding you toward the trail. The path winds gently uphill through beautiful aspen groves and is wide enough for groups to enjoy a relaxed, conversational hike together. It’s a perfect way to soak in the natural beauty of the area before or after the festivities!
If you are driving from Denver, stop at the top of Independence Pass (parking lot and basic toilets), hike a minute to take in a 360 view, snap some awesome photos, then hop back in the vehicle to enjoy even more gorgeous views all the way down to Aspen.
Spend the day at 11,325 feet atop Aspen Mountain and experience the best of Colorado summer. Start by purchasing your lift tickets in downtown Aspen at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola, then enjoy a scenic ride to the summit. Once there, treat yourself to casual dining at the Sundeck Restaurant, take in live music on the weekends, or explore a variety of summer hiking trails. For a bit of fun, try your hand at disc golf or enjoy lawn games like giant chess, checkers, corn hole, ladder toss, and croquet.
Take the Elk Camp Gondola and Elk Camp chairlift (Friday through Sunday) for stunning views and an amazing network of trails suitable for all levels of hikers. Pick up a map from the gondola ticket office in Snowmass Base Village and plan your route for the day.
