How We Met

Who says you can't find love in a (karaoke) bar?

We can't quite remember the day, but our best guess is that we met sometime around spring of 2012/2013, in Nashville's very own Santa's Pub. I (Audry) was there with my sister, and I looked across the room and saw the CUTEST boy. I gasped, told Alana to casually look, and that I knew I had to go talk to him. I somehow mustered up the courage, and off I went to meet this handsome man. He was wearing a baseball tee & hat, so that gave me my intro. I believe I asked if he was just getting done with practice (clearly, I have game). In typical Nicholas Badeaux fashion, he played along with it and before you know it, we're talking about his rise to baseball fame, and his career in the MLB. We laughed and chatted the night away, and I knew this man had to be wonderful, because he instantly felt like an old friend. Much to my disappointment, nothing more than a friendship bloomed, except the occasional text or gif battle. Our paths crossed at church and out on the weekends, but I always hoped one day I'd have a real shot with him. Well, the Lord works in mysterious ways because one day in 2016, I received a text from Nicholas, and little did I know, that was the start to something beautiful. We had more gif battles, and text some friendly trash talk about the upcoming Alabama vs. LSU Game, and then Nicholas asked me if I'd be interested in putting a bet on the game. I asked what he had in mind, and he said "Loser takes winner to dinner". I think I died a little because WHO BETS AGAINST AL? (I like to believe he just really wanted to go out with me). I agreed to the bet, and anxiously waited for Saturday. Fast forward to the game, and my Crimson Tide gets the W. Nicholas text me after the game congratulating me, and asked when we were going to dinner. We landed on the following week, and I happened to have tickets to a Johnnyswim Concert the following Wednesday, so it was a date (AHHH FINALLY!!!) He took me to dinner, we went to the show, and the rest is history.

The Proposal pt 1

"Do you really want to go fishing?"

Earlier in the week of the proposal, Nicholas had asked me (Audry) if I'd like to go to AL. We were supposed to go home for New Years, but I got sick so we stayed in Nashville. Little did I know, I had set him up with the perfect reason to mention an AL weekend trip. He also mentioned his brother Jacee might want to join, which made me a little suspicious. We had previously said we'd love for both of our families to be present at the Proposal, but I had also told myself not to set any expectations, so I went with it, no questions asked. Also throughout the week, my dad had been asking if Nicholas wanted to go fishing on Saturday. Repeatedly. But he said we had to be there at 6a, & I knew that wouldn't happen. Fast Forward to Saturday, and we're all heading down to Bama. Alana had also decided to join the trip, so it was a full family affair. I was SUPER excited to show Jacee Florence, and had decided on a few places we had to take him. So we arrive at my parents house, and no more than 10 minutes in, Nicholas says "Addam just called and said his neighbor told us we could use his fishing boat, so we're going to go fishing". And I was super confused, because we had all of these plans to show Jacee around. I kept asking "do you guys really want to go fishing?"

Off the boys go, fishing poles and all, so my mom and sister took me to town. Later in the day, Nicholas text me asking if we could come over to Addam's house around 4:15 and head to dinner. I said of course, and asked if they'd had any luck fishing. He said they'd "caught a few". That makes me laugh so hard now. My family had thought through all of the details. Down to the point that they knew the first thing I'd do is walk in and go to the restroom, so my mom had us stop before we arrived. So hilarious (and embarrassing). After lots of stalling because little did I know, there was a group text with all of our families in it, and apparently the lights weren't working. So Mom and Alana found every way possible to kill time. We finally get to my brother Addam's house (he lives on the water and it's such a beautiful, peaceful, serene area. It's one of my most favorite places to be) and I walked up to the house. It was then that I saw candles, looked down the porch and saw a sign with our favorite song written on it, and I knew something was happening. I got to the top of the staircase, and saw a backyard full of string lights, pictures, and Nicholas. He was standing on top of the pier, and I walked up the stairs to find him and Obie (in a tuxedo). with a sign that said "Mom I've said yes, now it's your turn". He asked me the best question I've ever been asked, and when he opened the ring box, I was so taken back I paused for a minute and then said YES OH MY GOODNESS YES!! He had a photographer hidden to capture the entire thing, and our families tucked away inside my brothers house. We celebrated with strawberry cake, champagne, and everyone's version of the day's story. It was the most perfect way for us to start this next chapter.
