Crystal Cove State Park is one of California’s largest remaining open spaces and natural coastlines and one of the top Laguna Beach attractions. Located between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach, Crystal Cove features beautiful sandy beaches, shimmering tidal pools, excellent surf, undulating hills, and thickly wooded canyons and ridges, making it a spectacular natural landscape. Boasting more than three miles of pristine beach and over 2,000 acres of rugged backcountry wilderness, Crystal Cove State Park is popular with outdoor enthusiasts who can take advantage of its magnificent scenery by hiking, biking, scuba and skin diving, swimming, fishing, and surfing.
Main Beach, the largest beach in Laguna Beach, is located in the middle of the city where Broadway Street and Ocean Avenue meet South Coast Highway. The historic 1929 lifeguard tower in the middle of the beach is a well-known landmark on this popular beach. People come to Main Beach to enjoy the sand and the surf, and popular water activities include swimming, body surfing, and bodyboarding. Other activities include basketball and volleyball.
Thousand Steps Beach is one of the largest beaches in South Laguna Beach, CA. It’s a wide sandy beach with volleyball courts, restrooms, tide pools, and even caves to discover. This is a popular beach so it helps that it’s large and the steps scare people off. There is a large cave at the south end of Thousand Steps Beach that you can enter when the tide is out and the entrance is exposed. You can walk all the way through this cave (which is actually a tunnel) to a tiny rocky cove on the other side. There are enticing rocks to climb on beyond the cave and they lead to another sandy beach, but refrain from going farther. Perhaps best to observe this area from a distance but beautiful nonetheless.

The ‘Top of the World’ hiking trail area is actually called 'Alta Laguna Park'. Here you will find multiple trailheads ranging from easy, to medium, to difficult. Here are some helpful tips: Go early, wear sunscreen, and bring plenty of water. The trails open at 7am and there is not a lot of shade so to avoid the heat and the crowds, we recommend going early. We take the Westridge path (the main one) to the ‘Top of the World’ and take pictures! There are many trail options from there based on your skill level that you can take. ‘Oakridge’ trail and ‘Mathis Canyon’ are the two that we recommend. Avoid the 'Car Wreck' trail, it can be intense. Parking: There is a small lot but was full. You can park on the street but may have to walk a bit.
