FAQs

Question

Why was the wedding postponed?

Answer

As you know, we were initially getting married on our 10th year anniversary, May 4, 2020. However, due to the unexpected spread of COVID-19 and the subsequent social-distancing guidelines/shelter-in-place laws, we were forced to postpone our wedding to a later date. We were heartbroken, but ultimately wanted to prioritize the safety of our loved ones traveling far and wide to attend our special day. We are back and better than before, so join us for our Black Royal Wedding 2.0 on September 14, 2020. Same venue and time!

Question

Why are you (still) getting married on a Monday?

Answer

Initially, we were set to get married on a Monday because our dating and engagement dates, respectively, are May 4th; however, due to our wedding unexpectedly being postponed, we had a very limited dates to select from. Likewise, the venue, while empathetic and supportive, had many couples to accommodate. As such, we were only able to choose a future date that fell on the same day of the week as our former date. This is known as a lateral transfer.

Question

Does your wedding have a theme?

Answer

Yes, it does! Our theme is, A Black Royal Wedding, so wear your beautiful gowns and dapper suits/tuxes! This will be a night fit for a King and Queen.

Question

Where is the ceremony and reception taking place?

Answer

The ceremony and reception will take place at the same venue, Astoria Banquets and Events, in Buffalo Grove, IL for your convenience. Please check the Schedule tab for the time of the ceremony, location of the venue, and other relevant details about RSVPs.

Question

Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The ceremony and reception will both be indoors.

Question

What will the weather be like this time of year?

Answer

One can never be too certain of the weather forecast in IL because we don't have the traditional four seasons. We have an extended winter that generally lasts until May followed by a short summer just before winter is back to wreak havoc. In all seriousness, we anticipate the weather will cooperate and be beautiful and sunny, but we do recommend bringing a light jacket and maybe an umbrella to be on the safe side. Since the ceremony and reception are indoors, you won't have to worry about being exposed to any inclement weather but bring what you need to feel comfortable during your commute.

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

Please arrive at the venue, Astoria Banquets and Events in Buffalo Grove, IL, by 4:45 pm CST sharp! The ceremony will begin promptly at 5 pm, so it is critical that you're on time or you will likely not be let into the ceremony area!

Question

Is there open seating at the ceremony and reception?

Answer

You can sit wherever you like at the ceremony; the seating is open. You do not have to pick a side as we're all family after the wedding is over. During the reception, however, you will be assigned to a particular table as we believe this will foster some exciting conversations and an opportunity to meet other cool people!

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

The dress code is semi-formal. Please wear an evening gown or cocktail dress or tux/suit. We ask that you also avoid the colors lavender and sky blue as these are our wedding colors and will distinguish the bridal party! Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in advance. Don't forget to bring comfortable dancing shoes as well :).

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

Generally, you should notify the bride and groom of your plans for a +1 before the time RSVP's are due, so we can get an accurate headcount and ensure that there is adequate seating and food for everyone. If you have not notified us of your +1 past the RSVP date, please only bring the specified number of people in your party. Thank you. P.S. Please be considerate. Not everyone automatically gets a +1. We would rather keep our wedding intimate and share it with the people we know well.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Coming from families with a lot of children, we welcome kids to attend. However, please be attentive to your child's needs throughout the wedding as we are not babysitters and will not enlist one to watch them for you. If you're concerned about your child's behavior, it might be best not to bring them. Also, do take into consideration there will be alcohol present and uncensored music being played when deciding whether to bring your child(ren).

Question

What happens after the ceremony?

Answer

After the ceremony, there will be a cocktail hour with a fully-serviced open bar as well as passed hors d'oeuvres. Please do make your way to the cocktail hour to try one of our signature drinks and mingle with the rest of the guests while the reception area is being set up. And don't forget to sign our guest book, drop your gifts off at the gift table, and deliver some advice and good wishes to our wishing jar! During the cocktail hour, the bridal party will be taking photos with the photographer, so there will not be a traditional receiving line! The bride and groom will be introduced at the start of the reception at which time there will be plenty of opportunities to get your photos taken with them.

Question

Will there be food and drinks served?

Answer

Of course. There will be a plated three-course dinner with an open bar during the reception. Please note your meal preferences on the RSVP form.

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

Of course! You'll be able to note your food allergies and other dietary restrictions as well as your meal preference on the RSVP form. Please see the RSVP tab for details.

Question

Will there be music or entertainment at the reception?

Answer

It wouldn't be a Turner wedding without music! We will have a lit DJ with dope music (and a few other surprises), so get prepared to dance and have a great time. No pressure, but we will expect to see you on the dance floor :).

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

Yes, please check under our Travel tab for the reservation link.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Yes, there will be onsite parking at the venue that is free of charge.

Question

Can I take and post pictures of the wedding on social media?

Answer

Of course, you can! We just ask that you please use our hashtag, #aturnerwedding2020, when uploading pictures and videos, so we can view them afterwards in one central location. There will also be Snapchat filters created for our wedding too, so do use those as well!

Question

Where are you registered?

Answer

Please see our Registry tab for the links to our registries. We are registered at Amazon and Walmart. If you shop for a gift outside of our registries, please do ask for a gift receipt and place it in the bag with the gift. *Monetary gifts are preferred and very appreciated.*

Question

What should I do if I can't make it?

Answer

You'll be sorely missed, but life happens, so we understand! Please RSVP "Declines" if you cannot make it ASAP. Thank you.
