Our story begins on Delta flight 383. Both of us were traveling home from the east coast for Christmas. Jordan was stationed in Charleston, SC and Vanessa was on a travel nurse assignment in Atlanta, GA. Vanessa's flight options were limited as she was scheduled to work until 3pm that day which caused her to book a flight into LAX. 12 hours before the flight was scheduled to leave, Vanessa decided to pay an extra $158 to change her seat to avoid having to be told her needed to check her carry on bag. This turned out to be the best $158 she had ever spent. Jordan boarded the flight when active duty military members were called. He thought he was going to luck out and get an entire row to himself. As the last few people on the plane were boarding, Vanessa passed by Jordan's row to find a spot for her carry-on. Jordan will say that it was her green Patagonia puffer jacket that caught his eye. Much to Jordan's surprise, Vanessa made her way back to row 19 where he was sitting and told him that she had the window seat. As Vanessa settled in for their 5 hour flight to California with hopes of getting a quick nap in, Jordan immediately struck up conservation. The next 5 hours consisted of Vanessa and Jordan talking, playing games, sharing the famous Delta Biscoff cookies, and watching movies. As Vanessa likes to say, it felt like a Nicholas Sparks movie. Once they arrived in LAX, Jordan helped Vanessa get her bag and walked her out while causally asking for her phone number. Jordan was on military leave for the next few weeks but Vanessa was only in town for the Christmas holiday. Over the next month they texted every day until Jordan was back in Charleston, SC from his military leave. One month from that infamous plane ride, we went on our first Charleston date and the rest is history!
