We're not sure when our first date was. It was either the time we met at Cold Stone and Tyler swooped in to pay for Ashtin, followed by talking for hours in Tyler's car, or it was going to Tyler's family's restaurant for lunch a few weeks later. We picked our anniversary date at random, after being asked by friends if we were official (after months of being encouraged to date). We picked March 28th, 2015. Over the years, we went through the hard times and the good together. We were ready. More than eight and a half years after that date, we made a new date, not at random this time. October 11th, 2023. Standing on a private beach on Kauai Island that Ashtin had fallen in love with, drying off after a morning swim and looking out across the water, Tyler said "hey, can you do me a favor?" She turned around, and there was the ring that they had spent weeks designing together, a unique ring that they both loved. Just the day before, Ashtin had asked Tyler to marry her on a small beach on the Na Pali Coast, with a ring that was too small. But October 11th was special. There was no getting down on a knee. There was no speech or grand romantic gesture. But it was exactly the way everything else had happened for us, which made it more perfect than anything else could have been.
