Our story began in the fall of 2017, during our freshman year of college. We were living in the dorms, still figuring out adulthood, and blissfully unaware that the people down the hall would change our lives forever. Our very first interaction happened thanks to Tanner’s roommates, who invited a few of us over for card games. Somewhere between laughter, trash-talk, and learning everyone’s names, Tanner offered Ashley some of his Goldfish crackers an act of kindness that would go down in history as the first spark. Tanner’s first impression of Ashley was that she was really funny and that she could hold her own when people tried to give her a hard time. Ashley thought Tanner was incredibly kind, funny, and one of those rare people who instantly makes everyone feel included, even people he’d just met moments before. And with that, a friendship was born. A few weeks later, Tanner asked Ashley to go on a double date with one of her friends, Zoey (who will now be standing by her side on our big day!). That first date turned into three more one of which included Tanner explaining what veal was, leaving Ashley absolutely mortified. We spent those early outings learning more about each other, but Ashley decided at the time that staying friends might be the safest option. We had a close friend group, and she didn’t want to risk making things awkward. But Tanner is nothing if not persistent and before long, we both realized that what we had was more than just friendship. In the fall of 2019, life took us in different directions. Ashley moved to Seward, Nebraska to continue playing soccer and finish her degree, while Tanner moved back to Missoula. Despite the distance, full-time jobs, full-time school, and the chaos of early adulthood, we chose each other. For two and a half years, we managed long distance with early-morning drives (like the 5 a.m. trip from Sioux Falls to Nebraska), weekend visits, and lots of calls squeezed in between our busy schedules. One of the most memorable moments from that time was a Valentine’s Day dinner in Nebraska Thank you Tori for the Transpostation). Tanner made reservations at DISH, which offered a five-course tasting menu that included raw scallops (Ashley’s nemesis), beet mousse served on a spoon, entrée portions the size of quarters, and a very bitter chocolate truffle. Needless to say… we ended the night at Taco Bell, laughing in bed while watching our favorite show. After graduating in 2022, Ashley moved back home to Las Vegas. The big question became: if we were going to continue this relationship, who would move? In February 2023, Ashley decided to take the leap and relocate to Missoula embracing winter, adventure, and life with Tanner. Then, On Thanksgiving Day 2024, Tanner chose a quiet moment to propose privately, leaving both of our families delightfully stunned when they learned the news. And just like that, the two people who met over card games and a handful of Goldfish are now planning a life together continuing to grow, support each other, and build a story we can’t wait to keep writing.

Nuestra historia empezó en el otoño de 2017, en nuestro primer año de universidad. Vivíamos en los dormitorios, intentando descubrir cómo ser “adultos” y sin tener idea de que las personas del pasillo iban a cambiar nuestra vida para siempre. Todo comenzó gracias a los compañeros de cuarto de Tanner, que organizaron una noche de cartas. Entre risas, bromas y tratando de aprendernos los nombres de todos, Tanner le ofreció a Ashley algunos de sus Goldfish. Un detalle pequeño… pero que hoy recordamos como el inicio de todo. Tanner pensó que Ashley era divertidísima y carismática. Ashley pensó que Tanner era increíblemente amable, gracioso y de esas personas que hacen que todos se sientan incluidos desde el primer momento. Y así empezó una amistad. Unas semanas después, Tanner invitó a Ashley a una cita doble con su amiga Zoe (quien ahora estará al lado de Ashley en el día de la boda!). Esa cita se convirtió en tres más. En una de ellas, Tanner le explicó a Ashley qué era el veal… y ella quedó completamente mortificada. Aunque las cosas empezaban a sentirse un poco diferentes, Ashley decidió que lo mejor era seguir siendo amigos. Teníamos un grupo muy unido y no quería arriesgarse a que todo se volviera incómodo. Pero si algo caracteriza a Tanner es que no se rinde fácilmente. Y no pasó mucho tiempo antes de que ambos nos diéramos cuenta de que lo nuestro era mucho más que amistad. En el otoño de 2019, la vida nos llevó por caminos distintos. Ashley se mudó a Seward, Nebraska, para seguir jugando fútbol y terminar la carrera, y Tanner regresó a Missoula. A pesar de la distancia, los trabajos, las clases y el caos de la vida adulta, seguimos eligiéndonos. Tanner hizo reservación en un restaurante elegante con menú pesado crudo (la peor pesadilla de Ashley), mousse de betabel en cucharita, platos tamaño miniatura y una trufa de chocolate súper amarga. Resultado final: terminamos en Taco Bell, riéndonos en la cama mientras veíamos nuestra serie favorita. Mucho más nuestro estilo. Después de graduarse en 2022, Ashley volvió a Las Vegas. Entonces llegó la gran pregunta: si esto iba en serio (y lo iba), quién se mudaba? En febrero de 2023, Ashley decidió aventarse y mudarse a Missoula, abrazando el frío, las aventuras y la vida juntos. Y en el Día de Acción de Gracias de 2024, en un momento tranquilo y muy nuestro, Tanner hizo la pregunta más importante. Nuestras familias se enteraron después… y sí, quedaron totalmente sorprendidas. Lo que empezó con una noche de cartas y un puñado de Goldfish se convirtió en una vida compartida.
