San Diego is a big city, coming in at over 400 square miles. Depending on where you're heading, a rideshare app or taxi service may be easier than working out transit! However, we have a local transit system (MTS) which includes a system of buses and trolleys throughout San Diego and the surrounding area. Tickets can be bought directly at a station, or on your phone using the Pronto app. Are you thinking about traveling out of the city to Irvine, Disneyland, LA, or other California destinations? You may want to consider renting a car. However, keep in mind parking is at a premium in popular areas!
San Diego tends to be around 70 degrees at most times of the year. With very little rain and the tourist season coming to an end, October is one of the best times of the year to visit as the weather starts cooling off a little. Plan to dress for warm weather during the day, and slightly cooler weather in the evening and nighttime - layers are great out here! If you're interested in the beach, it will still feel enough like summer to enjoy a good swim all year round.
Shelter Island is only about 1.2 miles long, and easy to walk along. It also offers a few different things to do in terms of water activities such as swimming, boating, and bike rentals. With a few different restaurants (including the very popular Bali Hai) there's a good amount to do here. However, we know you might be looking to explore other parts of San Diego as well! If you're planning to travel downtown or to other areas from Shelter Island (or are staying in another area and coming to Shelter Island for the ceremony and reception), we recommend driving or utilizing uber/lyft.
Absolutely not! We will be staying at Best Western Island Palms and invite everyone to join us if they are interested in staying in the area. However, there are a lot of wonderful areas of San Diego you may wish to stay in depending on what you would like to do during your trip. Here are some neighborhoods you may want to consider: To be close to the beach, Coronado and La Jolla are lovely and walkable (but may be a little more expensive). If you want to be in the middle of the action, downtown San Diego is very walkable, especially near the bay and Seaport Village. If you're looking for an area surrounded by plenty of good food options, Clairemont (our neighborhood!) is affordable and close to the beloved Convoy Street, which features lots of popular restaurants (we recommend having a car or being ready to uber/lyft here!)
