We met in Ms. Laclair’s 3rd grade class, back when I moved to Mooers, NY. At the time, he was just a kid who tattled on everyone, and I never would have guessed he would grow up to be my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and my person for life. Then 9th grade happened. We ended up in the same friend group, so suddenly we were around each other all the time. Somewhere between the group chats, the jokes, and just figuring out life at 14, something shifted. I got to know him better, and before long, talking to him became the best part of my day. On March 7, 2016, at my locker, he asked me to be his girlfriend, sweating bullets and trying to act cool. I said yes, and that awkward, nervous moment turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made. Before we had cars, our bikes were our way of getting around. We spent countless afternoons riding to each other’s houses and around town. We grew up together, graduating high school side by side, moving into our first apartment in Albany, finishing college, moving to Plattsburgh, starting our careers, and then eventually moving to Potsdam. Every step along the way felt sweeter because he was there. He proposed on Thanksgiving 2024 in his family’s gazebo while snow fell quietly outside. Being surrounded by our families made it feel so special and full of love. Spoiler alert…I said YES! Travelling has always been something we enjoy doing together. From exploring Italy’s cobblestone streets to relaxing in the Bahamas to spontaneous trips in Maine and the Poconos, we’ve shared so many memories. Greece will be our next adventure, and we’re thrilled to experience it together as newlyweds. We grew up side by side, first as classmates, then as friends, and eventually as high school sweethearts. He is my best friend, my favorite person, and the one I will always choose. I still laugh thinking that the boy who used to be my fourth-grade bully is now the one I can’t imagine life without.
