Great little French restaurant near golden gate park. If you’re planning on spending time in the park and are looking for a place to eat after, make sure to check this place out. They don’t take reservations, but you can join the waitlist online ahead of time on the day you want to go (https://www.zaziesf.com/waitlist.html).
A small restaurant that serves tacos, burritos and plates with incredibly fresh & delicious seafood. Isabelle recommends the grilled fish of the day taco. Be prepared to wait - this place almost always has a line (though, don't be too intimidated when you get there, because the line does move pretty quickly).
Incredible pizza place located right by Washington Square in the heart of North Beach (San Francisco’s “little Italy”). They have great options for Celiac sufferers and gluten-enjoyers alike!
We discovered this place because we were taking our engagement photos nearby and were just looking for a place to eat, and it ended up being some of the best sushi we've ever had. It's pricey (most good sushi in San Francisco is), but worth it. Isabelle recommends the tasting spoons and the salmon tasting omakase!
The ferry building marketplace has a nice variety of little shops & restaurants to check out. For our gluten-free guests, Isabelle highly recommends stopping at the Mariposa Baking Company (but make sure to plan ahead, as they have limited hours). Pier 39 (a popular tourist attraction) is about a half hour walk from here - but it’s a flat, easy walk, which is more than we can say for the rest of the city.
This was one of the first places we visited when we moved here! It’s a small hiking area where you can get a nice view of the bridge.
We definitely recommend taking a tour of Alcatraz if it's your first time in San Francisco. It’s really interesting & you get great views of the city! If you want to do this, make sure to get your tickets early.
There's tons to do in the park: the San Francisco Botanical Garden, the Dahlia Garden, the Japanese Tea Garden, and the De young museum are just a few options. There's a paved bike path and bike rentals are available near by the park, as well as guided bike tours (check out Bay City Bikes). On a nice day, you can easily spend a couple hours exploring.
For anyone who is planning to still be in town on the evening of Monday July 3rd, we highly recommend going to the Giants game against the Mariners at 6:45pm. Tickets are pretty cheap, Oracle park is a great stadium & the Giants are lots of fun to watch. Beware the garlic fries though - they may look tempting, but they are just ridiculously garlicky.
