When we were in high school, Andrew was working at a small local grocery store where several of Ashlee's friends also worked. She came in to meet one of her friends after closing and immediately caught Andrew's eye. A week or two later, a friend of Andrew's was having some friends over for a get-together. Andrew proceeded to invite one of his co-workers (one of Ashlee's friends) hoping that she might bring Ashlee along. Andrew even called Ashlee's friend and requested to speak to Ashlee directly. Her friend was a little bit surprised but handed the phone over to Ashlee. Andrew insisted that Ashlee come to this party, and she gave him a very non-committal answer, as she didn't know this person at all. To Andrew's luck, she showed up that night. There was an immediate spark between us that led us down the road to where we are now.
During Ashlee's 4th year of medical school, she was doing an away rotation at the University of Washington in Seattle. I knew this was one of her favorite cities and thought it would be the right opportunity to finally propose. Before my trip, I researched some of Seattle's parks that might be the perfect place to propose. I landed on Discovery Park with some water views near an old lighthouse. The whole day leading up, I was a nervous wreck, but I tried holding it together so she wouldn't notice. She noticed. As we approached the lighthouse, I let her get a few steps ahead. When she turned around, I was on my knee asking her to marry me. She said yes!
