The Minnukettu Ceremony

Minnukettu is a cherished tradition in the Kerala Christian wedding ceremony. During this sacred moment, the groom ties the Minnu—a small gold pendant bearing a cross—around the bride's neck using seven strands taken from the bride's wedding sari. This symbolizes the union of husband and wife in the presence of God and reflects their commitment to a lifelong covenant of faith, love, and partnership. The seven threads represent the couple being bound together through God's grace, while the cross on the Minnu serves as a reminder that Christ is at the center of their marriage. Similar to a wedding ring in Western traditions, the Minnu is a visible symbol of the vows exchanged and the sacred bond being formed. For Kerala Christians, the Minnukettu is one of the most meaningful moments of the wedding ceremony, celebrating not only the joining of two individuals but also the joining of two families in faith and love.
