Things To Do

Marblehead

Marblehead, MA

Walk around the historic district of Marblehead (Katharine’s hometown)! The windy streets are filled with cute boutiques and old homes marked with the history of the original owners and the date they were built (dating as far back as 1663). Other highlights-- Old Burial Hill and Redd’s Pond, Abbott Hall (home of the Spirit of ‘76 Painting), and as I mentioned several other times on this list, Crocker Park.

The Marblehead Christmas Walk

Marblehead, MA 01945

There is a fun weekend of Christmas activities planned all over Marblehead this weekend! Markets, festivals, tree lightings, Santa arriving by lobster boat... all the classics :) Click "View" for full schedule of events.

Chandler Hovey Park

Lighthouse Lane, Marblehead, MA 01945
, (781) 631-0236

Chandler Hovey Park with the Marblehead Lighthouse is out on Marblehead Neck! Castle Rock is also a great spot on the Neck. And while you're touring Marblehead parks, Crocker Park and Fort Sewall are not to be missed!

Barnacle Restaurant Inc

141 Front Street, Marblehead, MA 01945
, (781) 631-4236

This is one of our favorite restaurants on the planet. Located in a weather-worn house on the rocky shore of Marblehead Harbor, head over there for some local seafood and cozy New England ambience.

Driftwood Restaurant

63 Front Street, Marblehead, MA 01945
, (781) 631-1145

Seaside breakfast shack in Marblehead. Head there for some local flavor.

The Muffin Shop

126 Washington Street, Marblehead, MA 01945
, (781) 631-8223

I can’t leave this out of the Marblehead list, despite the fact that, more often than not, they are out of muffins. But if they do have any left, it’s your lucky day! Grab one and walk over to Crocker Park to eat it. Can’t beat a muffin and a view!

Salem

Salem, MA 01970

Walk around Essex Street Pedestrian Mall, check out the House of Seven Gables, and needless to say, there is no shortage of witch history all around!

Pickering Wharf

23 Congress St, Salem, MA 01970

There are some great classic New England seafood restaurants around here! We love Sea Level Oyster Bar and Finz. Speaking of seafood.. Turner's is also fantastic (but not right on the wharf.. it's a short walk away). Walkable from hotels.

Jaho Coffee Roaster & Wine Bar

197 Derby Street, Salem, MA 01970
, (978) 744-4300

A great place for coffee and dessert in Salem’s downtown. Also on Pickering Wharf! Walkable from hotels.

Red's Sandwich Shop

15 Central Street, Salem, MA 01970
, (978) 745-3527

Great breakfast spot in Salem, located in the old London Coffee House (1698), and walkable from the hotels.

Thai Place Restaurant

2 E India Square Mall, Salem, MA 01970
, (978) 741-8008

If you’re looking for a delicious quiet dinner in Salem, and just the nicest restaurant owners, this is your spot! This has been a favorite for our family since Katharine had lunch here on a 6th grade field trip. Walkable from hotels.

Boston

Boston, MA

Boston is about 45 minutes to an hour away, depending on traffic. You can drive in or grab the Commuter Rail train in Salem, or the Blue Line subway at Wonderland Station in Revere.
