Marnee Thai Restaurant
Arturo and Chris befriended the owner of Marnee Thai when we lived in the Sunset, and brought many friends and family to enjoy some of the best Thai food in San Francisco. Without fail, Arturo orders the Pad Praram with Chicken, and Chris the Prik King with Chicken, and if we are feeling extra hungry, we’ll share Pineapple Fried Rice with……wait for it……Chicken. Hopefully you’ll be more adventurous. Arturo y Chris hicieron amistad con el dueño de Marnee Thai cuando vivíamos en el Sunset, y trajeron a muchos amigos y familiares a disfrutar de la mejor comida tailandesa de San Francisco. Sin falta, Arturo pide el Pad Praram con pollo y Chris el Prik King con pollo, y si tenemos mucha hambre, compartimos el arroz frito con piña y... espera... pollo. Esperamos que sean más aventureros.
Silver Spur
This place is a true dive. It opens at 8 am to cater to those working the graveyard shifts, and often advertises peanut butter flavored whiskey as a “special”. Stop in for a quick drink on your way to/from Marnee Thai or any of the other really good Asian restaurants on Irving Street. Este lugar es un verdadero dive. Abre a las 8 am para atender a los que trabajan en turnos nocturnos, y a menudo anuncia whisky con sabor a mantequilla de maní como una “especialidad”. Puerto Alegre
Our favorite taqueria in SF by a mile! Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu including the large and well-priced pitchers of margaritas (beware, they carry a nice kick!) ¡Nuestra taquería favorita en SF por mucho! No te puedes equivocar con nada en el menú, incluyendo las grandes y bien valoradas jarras de margaritas (cuidado, tienen un buen golpe).
Latin American Club
Remember we warned you about the potency of margaritas at Puerto Alegre? We need to sound the alarm for the margs at LAC, they are not for the faint of heart. Chris, Arturo, and his mom Gloria have enjoyed a margarita here on more than one occasion and walked out wondering what the hell hit us. They have beer too. ¿Recuerdan que les advertimos sobre la potencia de las margaritas en Puerto Alegre? Necesitamos sonar la alarma para las margaritas en LAC, no son para los débiles de corazón. Chris, Arturo y su mamá Gloria han disfrutado de una margarita aquí en más de una ocasión y salieron preguntándose qué demonios nos golpeó. También tienen cerveza.
Tommy's Joynt
There’s really nothing like this place in the Bay Area. It’s part old school cafeteria, part German beer hall, with décor that looks like it hasn’t been dusted since 1979. Food is outstanding especially the sliced pastrami plate, giant turkey legs, and whatever they happen to have on special. We kicked-off Tim and Lauren Cummings’ 2019 Brochelorette Party festivities with a good meal here. Realmente no hay nada como este lugar en el Área de la Bahía. Es parte cafetería de la vieja escuela, parte cervecería alemana, con una decoración que parece que no ha sido desempolvada desde 1979. La comida es sobresaliente, especialmente el plato de pastrami en rodajas, las patas de pavo gigantes y lo que tengan de especial. Cordon Bleu Vietnamese Restaurant
This place is legendary. And probably our favorite place for a quick meal. The owner Katie (say hello for us!) serves up extremely good Vietnamese home cooking. There are about 11 seats total but usually they turn over quickly. Our very good friend Joanna managed to hold every seat in the place for Chris’ 40th birthday, and while we were continuously met with frowns from the folks in line, it was a magical evening! Este lugar es legendario. Y probablemente nuestro lugar favorito para una comida rápida. La dueña Katie (salúdenla de nuestra parte) sirve comida casera vietnamita extremadamente buena. Hay unas 11 sillas en total, pero generalmente se desocupan rápidamente. Nuestra muy buena amiga Joanna logró reservar todos los asientos del lugar para el cumpleaños número 40 de Chris, y aunque nos encontramos continuamente con ceños fruncidos de las personas en la fila, fue una noche mágica.
Aunt Charlie's Lounge
The oldest continuously operating LGBTQ bar in San Francisco, and the closest bar to Arturo and Chris’ offices when they first started dating. Needless to say, this was an important place for us as our relationship developed, and remains one of our favorite spots for an after work cocktail. If you’re lucky, the owner will have not yet removed their extensive Christmas in July decorations by the time you arrive in August. El bar LGBTQ más antiguo en funcionamiento continuo en San Francisco, y el bar más cercano a las oficinas de Arturo y Chris cuando comenzaron a salir. No hace falta decir que este fue un lugar importante para nosotros a medida que nuestra relación se desarrollaba, y sigue siendo uno de nuestros lugares favoritos para un cóctel después del trabajo. Alamo Square Seafood Grill
Closest restaurant to our apartment (lucky us!), and we often dine here on Wednesday nights when they waive the BYO wine bottle corkage fees! They can cook a variety of fresh fish about 5 different ways with a number of amazing sauces (peppercorn is Chris’ personal favorite). There are really good non-seafood French dishes too. Prices are outstanding for the quality of the food. El restaurante más cercano a nuestro apartamento (¡qué suerte la nuestra!), y a menudo cenamos aquí los miércoles por la noche cuando no cobran la tarifa de descorche por traer tu propia botella de vino. Smuggler's Cove
Some of you may know that tiki bars are Chris’ favorite kind of bars, especially those that go overboard (pun intended!) on tiki décor and deliver really solid tiki cocktails. When you walk in you forget you are anywhere else other than a pirate ship, and it’s extremely popular so beware of lines. Typically if you arrive between 4-6 pm you can sneak in a cocktail or two before it gets crowded. Painkiller does the trick. North Lake
A peaceful small lake in vast Golden Gate Park. It’s Chris’ favorite birdwatching spot in the city, and Arturo and Chris frequented this area on our evening walks during the pandemic. The Bison Paddock is a five-minute walk from here and definitely worth a visit. Entrada del parque en 43rd Avenue y Fulton Streets Un pequeño lago pacífico en el vasto Golden Gate Park. Es el lugar favorito de Chris para observar aves en la ciudad, y Arturo y Chris frecuentaban esta área en nuestras caminatas nocturnas durante la pandemia. El Bison Paddock está a cinco minutos a pie de aquí y definitivamente vale la pena visitarlo.
Macondray Lane
Macondray Lane, between Jones and Taylor Streets (Russian Hill) An adorable garden path that’s a public right of way. Arturo and Chris got to know this spot well when we were cat sitting for our good friend Colleen, and it’s really a magical little street within the quintessential Russian Hill Neighborhood. On a clear day, you should have a perfect view of Alcatraz. Macondray Lane, entre Jones y Taylor Streets (Russian Hill) Un adorable sendero de jardín que es un derecho de paso público. Arturo y Chris conocieron bien este lugar cuando cuidábamos al gato de nuestra buena amiga Colleen, y es realmente una pequeña calle mágica dentro del vecindario por excelencia de Russian Hill. En un día claro, deberías tener una vista perfecta de Alcatraz.
Parrot Park
Across from the Ferry Building between Clay and Washington Streets The park itself is nothing remarkable, but it’s close to the Ferry Building and Embarcadero, two wonderful spots, and it comes alive with SF’s resident Red-Masked Parakeet population in the evenings around 6-7 pm. If you venture over to the Ferry Building, worth a visit to hear the squawking and understand why a group of parrots is called a pandemonium. Esplanade, Yerba Buena Gardens
Mission Street between 3rd and 4th Streets This spot holds a special place in our hearts. Back in 2015, Arturo and Chris admitted our feelings for one another during a walk around this park after work. It’s very close to the wedding hotels and is a nice place to relax while exploring the many great restaurants and museums in the area. There is a Joyride Pizza location in the park – grab a slice and drink and enjoy this park. Mission Street entre 3rd y 4th Streets Este lugar tiene un lugar especial en nuestros corazones. En 2015, Arturo y Chris admitieron sus sentimientos mutuos durante una caminata por este parque después del trabajo. Está muy cerca de los hoteles de la boda y es un buen lugar para relajarse mientras exploras los muchos restaurantes y museos geniales en el área. Dolores Park
Dolores Street between 18th and 20th Streets This park really comes alive with SF residents and tourists. Famous as a place for picnics with some BYO drinks, it’s a great place to hang with friends and take in some spectacular views of Downtown SF. Grab some to-go beers at Woods Cerveceria (local brewery at the corner of 18th and Church) or some baked goods from nearby Tartine and relax in the sunshine! Dolores Street entre 18th y 20th Streets Este parque realmente cobra vida con residentes y turistas de SF. Famoso como un lugar para picnics con algunas bebidas BYO, es un gran lugar para pasar el rato con amigos y disfrutar de algunas vistas espectaculares del centro de SF. Toma unas cervezas para llevar en Woods Cerveceria (cervecería local en la esquina de 18th y Church) o algunos productos horneados de la cercana Tartine y relájate bajo el sol.
