Arielle Randolph and Jerell Blakeley’s love story began in the most modern way—on Hinge—at the very end of 2023. Jerell had widened his search radius to 100 miles around Indianapolis, and as fate would have it, Arielle was right on the edge of that radius. They connected just before New Year’s Eve and quickly hit it off, sensing something extraordinary from their very first conversations. Their first date was at a charming sushi restaurant in Cincinnati. Jerell, finishing up a work call as he walked in, was instantly struck by Arielle’s radiant beauty and promptly ended the call (a big deal for him!). Over dinner, they discovered a series of uncanny connections: not only did they share the same nickname—Rell—but they also graduated from Howard University on the same day, in the same ceremony. As they reflected on their time at “The Mecca,” they realized their paths had likely crossed countless times—they probably walked the same hallways of historic Douglass Hall, a cornerstone of their shared alma mater. By their second date—a soulful R&B concert in Columbus, Ohio—they knew they had something special. The next day, Jerell’s Spotify revealed just how much the evening had impacted him: he played So Special by Dru Hill 206 times the very next day. As their relationship blossomed, they shared adventures both near and far. They love traveling, whether it’s exploring cities across the U.S. or venturing abroad, and they enjoy long conversations about culture, current events, and their shared vision for a better world. By April, they were meeting each other’s families, and on June 1, Jerell proposed to Arielle at Cincinnati’s beautiful Ault Park, knowing her love for nature would make it the perfect setting. Surrounded by lush greenery and blooming flowers, she said yes, and their next chapter officially began. At home, they cherish their evenings together. Arielle, a semi-dedicated vegetarian, enjoys cooking plant-based meals, while Jerell, though not yet fully sold on her black bean burgers, appreciates her creativity in the kitchen. They share a passion for discovering new restaurants in Cincinnati and Indianapolis, savoring food, culture, and music wherever they go. Their professions and personalities could not seem more different at first glance. Arielle, as a pediatrician, is naturally outgoing and thrives on building connections with the children and families she serves. Her extroverted energy lights up a room, perfectly suited to her career as a caregiver and problem solver. Jerell, on the other hand, describes himself as an “introverted extrovert.” Despite his impactful career as a lobbyist and former elected official, Jerell recharges with quiet reflection and finds his energy in solitude. Where Arielle excels in bringing warmth and creativity to their relationship, Jerell balances things with structure, thoughtfulness, and a knack for planning. He has a palm agenda for just about everything, while Arielle embraces the joy of spontaneity. Together, they strike the perfect balance—Jerell helps keep things on track, and Arielle reminds him to enjoy the journey. Their differences not only make their relationship work but also make it stronger, as they bring out the best in each other. Arielle graduated magna cum laude from Howard University and earned her MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine. She is now a pediatrician at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati. Jerell, also a proud Howard alum, holds a master’s degree in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education from Rutgers University-New Brunswick. He serves as the Director of Government, Community, and Racial and Social Justice at the Indiana State Teachers Association and teaches labor studies at Rutgers University and Indiana University. Their story is one of serendipity, shared passions, and an undeniable connection. Arielle and Jerell are so excited to celebrate their love with you and can’t wait to begin this new chapter together!
