How They Met

9.18.11

Arielle and Ben have a love story of the 21st century-they met online. Ben was working overnights and free time was rare, and one of Arielle's friends told her about a website called OkCupid, that's where their journey began. Arielle messaged Ben, a self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie, as she had gone bungee jumping in New Zealand so was up for a new challenge. Ben was intrigued, and the two chatted online for a few weeks when Hurricane Irene hit town and knocked over a tree at Arielle's house. In true Ben fashion he said he would grab his chain saw and cut it up. Arielle was thrilled by the idea (a handy man?! Oh my!) but figured they should meet first before inviting a stranger to her home. The next day they met at the Wrentham Outlets, but of course it could not be a normal meeting, they made it into a game. The first one to arrive had to stand in place and the other person had to find them while playing "hot or cold". Ben arrived first (not really) and Arielle searched to find him. After they met up they walked around and were having such a good time they decided to go to dinner, but where to go? Well they flipped a coin and ended up at Cracker Barrel. Again, how could the night end! So Ben asked Arielle if she wanted to go for a drive. Ignoring everything her parents taught her (never get in a car with a stranger), Arielle went because she didn't want the night to end, she had a feeling about this one. They drove around town and somehow ended up in RI, that was when Ben promptly turned around and told Arielle he was not kidnapping her. The night ended when he dropped her off at her car and very gentlemanly opened the door and gave her a hug goodnight. The two began seeing each other a few times a week and then on September 18th, 2011, Ben asked Arielle to officially go out with him. She said no. He was up for a job in VA and she didn't want to do long distance. Luckily Ben was very persuasive and Arielle eventually said yes and they have been together ever since!

The Proposal

6.30.17

Arielle and Ben had just moved into their new home together a month earlier and were working on some updates. One of which included getting a new Nest system (fancy thermostat). As Ben was installing the system Arielle was in the hammock on the porch enjoying the nice summer weather when she got an email from Nest stating the WiFi name for the thermostat was changed to 'Fort Williams'. She called Ben out to the porch where she proceeded to explain that she was, in fact, not a Williams. Ben replied with "well not yet..." so Arielle said "well then you need to propose to me first, and it cant start with 'Hey babe these tacos are so good'". Ben then proceeded to say "Fine then. Will you marry me?". Arielle wasn't going to let him get off that easy so she said, "well... you need to get down on a knee first so I know it's real". Ben then got down on his knee and asked again. Arielle then (being the instigator that she is) told Ben with a grin "Uhh, I feel like you need to give me something". Ben then turned and went in the house without a word. Arielle thought nothing of it and scrolled through her phone thinking the conversation was over, however faint hammering and grinding could be heard from within the house. A few minutes later Ben comes through the door and gets down on a knee holding a nail from his work shop that he worked into the shape of a ring in his hand. He got down on his knee and again asked Arielle to marry him. This time Arielle said YES!! They celebrated the evening with a glass of Makers Mark, pulled pork and wings. Picture below!
