Travel

We know traveling to Italy is a big trip, so we've gathered everything you need to start planning—from flights and trains to accommodations and local recommendations. We'll continue updating this page as details are finalized, but we hope this helps make the journey a little easier. Before You Book Since the wedding is still over a year away, it may be a little early to lock in flights. We'll be keeping an eye on airfare and will send updates through Zola when we think it's a good time to start booking. If you'd like to start planning, now is a great time to: • Make sure your passport is up to date • Think about whether you'd like to extend your trip in Italy • Complete our planning survey if you haven't already

Flight

FLORENCE (FLR)

Closest major city + great pre-wedding destination Pros: Beautiful city to explore before the wedding Easy train connections Great if you're planning extra time in Tuscany Lots of flight options from major US cities Cons: Usually requires a connection from the US Slightly longer transfer than Pisa Typical travel time to Castiglioncello: ~1.5–2 hours Our take: If you're planning to spend time in Tuscany before the wedding, Florence is one of our favorite options.

Flight

PISA (PSA)

Closest airport to Castiglioncello Pros: Closest airport to the venue Easiest travel day Simple train connection Great option if you're primarily coming for the wedding Cons: Fewer flight options Usually requires a connection Typical travel time to Castiglioncello: ~30–45 minutes Our take: The most convenient airport if your main goal is getting to the wedding weekend.

Flight

ROME (FCO)

Best option for direct flights Pros: Direct flights available from many US cities Easy to add a few days in Rome Large airport with many flight options Cons: Longer train journey to Castiglioncello Usually requires a train transfer Typical travel time to Castiglioncello: ~3–4 hours Our take: We flew direct from Detroit to Rome on our last trip and loved the convenience of avoiding a connection.

Flight

BOLOGNA (BLQ)

Underrated option Pros: Beautiful city Great food Often easier flight pricing Well-connected train station Cons: Longer journey than Florence or Pisa Usually requires a train transfer Typical travel time to Castiglioncello: ~2.5–3.5 hours Our take: A great option if you want to explore another part of Italy before heading to the wedding.

Train

TRAIN TRAVEL

Italy's train system is one of the easiest ways to get around the country, and we expect most guests will rely on it during their trip. A few tips: Book trains in advance when possible Florence and Pisa offer the most straightforward routes Rome and Bologna require a bit more travel time but are still very manageable We recommend downloading the Rome2Rio app to compare routes and travel options

Travel Note

TRAVEL TIPS

* Compare flights from Florence, Pisa, Rome, and Bologna * Guests traveling from Southeast Michigan may also want to compare fares from both Detroit (DTW) and Toronto (YYZ) * Book train tickets in advance when possible * June 2nd is a national holiday in Italy, so transportation may be busier than usual * Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your travel dates

Accomodations

Staying Near the Venue: Most guests will stay within walking distance of the venue. We're currently working on hotel blocks and will share booking information as soon as it's available. 🏡 The Villa The villa will primarily house our immediate family and bridal party throughout the wedding weekend to help with logistics and coordination. We'll be reaching out directly to guests staying at the villa. For everyone else, we'll be organizing hotel blocks nearby so everyone is still close to the festivities. 🚶 Walkability One of the things we love about Castiglioncello is that accommodations, restaurants, beaches, and the venue are all located close together. Most guests will be within a short walk of the wedding festivities. 🇮🇹 What to Expect Accommodations in Castiglioncello are simple and comfortable—think classic coastal Italy rather than a luxury resort. Most rooms include: Air conditioning Private bathrooms Essential amenities If you're particular about toiletries or hair products, you may want to bring your own. 👥 Traveling With Friends?
