Short answer, yes! We understand a destination reception is a big commitment, and people have work, kids, and other responsibilities. We are planning a local celebration in Visalia and Cebu, which will each be very small and low-key. If you're unable to attend the international celebration, please let us know if you're interested in joining the local festivities.
It depends on where you're flying out of and whether you fly direct or not, so we can only give you an estimate. In any event we won't sugarcoat it--it is a MISSION to get from California to the Philippines. Direct flights from California to Manila can range from 12-18 hours. It would obviously take more time if you're booking a flight with layovers. Once you get to Manila, there will be an additional small flight from Manila to El Nido, then a boat ride from El Nido to Miniloc Island. If you are not used to long travel periods, we suggest leaving California earlier to make time for rest stops along the way. Consider spending a night or two in Manila or El Nido prior to coming to Miniloc on June 1, 2023.
The Philippines is 15 hours ahead of California. You'll need to factor that into your travel plans!
As of now, there is no longer any quarantine period required when flying into the Philippines. The resort as COVID precautions which are outlined in detail in the TRAVEL page.
Unfortunately, no. Miniloc Island is a standalone island resort about 45 minutes away from El Nido by boat. There is also no night time boat travel between the two islands, so unless you're staying at the resort, there would be no way for you to travel to and from the nightly festivities. We're hoping that early notice will give everyone enough time to save up!
The resort requires guest to book a minimum of two nights for each room. We understand if you'd like to just book a stay for June 2-3, 2023 (the night of the reception and the night before). This is DEFINITELY an option, and you can stay at a cheaper resort in El Nido on June 1, 2023. However, we think more time at the resort will make the flights and ~long~ voyages more worth it. Also, we are having our Welcome Party on the night of June 1, 2023 and we'd love to have everyone there! Either way, we will appreciate any time you can spend with us!
Maybe a little bit, but for the most part, there will be signs in English at the airports and resort. Most Filipinos can speak and write English (better than some Americans even hehe). Ari's friends and family all speak English and Tagalog fluently. The language barrier shouldn't be an issue. However, as good citizens of the world, it's always recommended to learn some basic words of the culture you're visiting! #TaraNaBiyaheTayo
Answer is a resounding NO! Gifts--whether you're flying out to the reception or not--are completely optional. We don't expect anything from anyone. While we would love to celebrate with you on the island, and while we will love and cherish anything you give us, please please please do not feel obligated to gift us anything. We're happy to be getting married and anything else is just an added bonus!
While the Philippines has amazing fresh seafood, that is definitely NOT the only food it has. El Nido has a ton of good restaurants that serve pretty much anything you would find in America--pizza, steak, chicken, lamb, pork, pasta, fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, vegan-friendly options... you name it. Miniloc Island resort is the same. The menu will have a wide variety of foods that will encompass any dietary restrictions. Make sure you let us know any dietary restrictions when you RSVP!
Unfortunately, this will be a no-kids-kind-of-wedding. We apologize as we know this will create a huge inconvenience for some. We're hoping the grandparents and babysitters can come through to give you young parents a fun and exciting vacation!
