Our Tinder Success Story

In another lifetime, we met during a general education class at the University of Oregon, or perhaps even a journalism class. Apryl's name gets called to read her news story for critiques, but it would take an entire workshop to save because, for some reason, the advertising department was part of the journalism school. No one says anything, but Ian reluctantly raises their hand, bless their heart. "Maybe it's best to scrap it and start over," they say, to the shock of the class. A true rom-com origin story made for the screens. Alas, no–our story starts before Apryl ever went to UO. We were two young adults, 100 miles apart and a world away. Yes, we're a Tinder success story. There, we said it for everyone to hear! And unlike a cute mayonnaise-or-miracle whip Tinder success story, we were two camera-loving, kooky kids just looking for a friend, but who ended up finding love. We starting talking on October 6th, 2019. Apryl was living with her parents in Sandy, and Ian was in their third year at UO in Eugene. We'd both been swiping while Ian was in Portland visiting their mom and, fortunately, we matched (phew). We talked for the entirety of October over text and phone calls before actually meeting on the 30th. Unfortunately for Ian, Apryl had a strong case of if-you-date-someone-they'll-break-your-heart-ism, so we didn't make it official until January 31st. We continued our long-distance galavanting until the fall of 2020, when Apryl moved to Eugene to finish her bachelors at UO and, oh yeah, actually be in the same town as Ian. The rest is filled with a pandemic, roommates, more long distance, and whole lot of boring adulting we won't hold you hostage for. We'll leave you with this: Ian's masseuse once said we've been together in many past lifetimes. Based on the bond we have and the love we share, we believe that to be true. So, thank you for reading our story and celebrating our union with us on November 1st. We hope to see you there in this lifetime and the next. Love, Apryl & Ian
