We met through a group of friends at a game night, which was solely setup so we can meet (no pressure, right!!) Although our friends knew we would hit it off, there's no way they knew how PERFECT Joe and I truly are for each other. Joe began texting me the following day, not wasting any time! Although we lived in two different states we made weekly date nights work. We'd meet half way, usually in Newport, KY, becoming a very special place for us. One night we were sitting on the river at Newport on the Levy and Joe asked me to be his girlfriend. As soon as I said "yes!", I kid you not fireworks went off, ACTUAL FIREWORKS! It was the beginning of our love story and couldn't have been timed any better.
There isn't an exact moment when we knew we were meant to be together. We did the whole long distance thing for 11 long months, but in that time we liked to travel. Our first extended trip was a week in Asheville. I surprised Sarah with a cabin in the woods...which she thought I was actually breaking into. There, everything was so natural. We spent our time working on a puzzle, playing board games, hitting up the local breweries and even spent a day exploring Biltmore. We discovered how much we love to do the same stuff and spend time together. It was this trip that "love" was spoken of. We were always planning our next trip...making our way to Siesta Keys, Utah and long weekends in northern Kentucky. Sarah eventually convinced me to take the step and move to Lexington. I would say it was before moving into our first apartment that we knew we'd get married, even if the words were never truly spoken.
It was our two year anniversary and we were spending the weekend at Hotel Covington, just like our first Valentines Day. Joe let me loosely plan the weekend, which is normal. When we arrived to the hotel, he stopped me outside the room and made me wait in the hallway....I should have known something was up, but only thought it was a surprise for our anniversary. He made me walk into the room with my eyes closed and when I finally got to open them I was facing a bottle of champagne, chocolates and a lovely note....but when I turned around Joe was down on one knee. I instantly started crying and shaking my head yes!! To our surprise, at the exact same time there was a wedding outside our room in the courtyard playing the wedding march....Joe has some great timing when it comes to these important questions! After all the excitement, taking pictures and texting family we head out to the activities I planned....or so I thought. He said he planned a quick private tasting at a local brewery before dinner. For those of you that don't know I love craft beer and exploring new breweries, so this was a very sweet gesture. However, when I walked in both our families and closest friends were all standing there yelling SURPRISE! I was in complete shock....Joe was able to plan a party and keep it a secret from me! It was a lovely day full of so many surprises.
For those who don't know, Joe is a computer programmer for a pharmaceutical company, meaning he gets to work from home...lucky him! And Sarah is an accounting assistant for a construction company. After a day of work, we usually relax by playing a board game or watching tv, then Joe cooks dinner (Sarah is the prep cook and baker). Mondays we usually hit up the rock climbing gym, while Thursdays we meet with our friends for a DND night (yes, we are nerds and proud of it!!). We hardly have a weekend that isn't planned....something Joe had to adjust to when moving in with Sarah because she's a "yes" girl lol. But we still find time to fulfill our hobbies, Joe - videogaming and racing cars, and Sarah - crafting, reading and baking. We love spending time with family and friends, but also going on adventures just the two of us.
