It's an easy 10 minute walk to view the first falls or a challenging 5 mile round trip hike to see the second falls. Either way, you will be treated to waterfall views and gorgeous fall colors.
Emerald Mountain is located right in downtown Steamboat and is a mecca of hiking and biking trails, with something for everyone. The new 3-person chairlift opens this summer, transporting people to the top of Howelsen Hill for site-seeing or hiking or access to the "Howler" alpine slide for a fun and fast ride down! The "Howler" will be open on Saturdays and Sundays only during September.
Spring Creek Trail is an easy to moderate out and back trail that starts close to downtown Steamboat. It is a popular option for both hikers and bikers and can be busy on the weekends. The trail starts as a dirt road that gradually narrows and becomes single track after about 1.6 miles. This is a great place to turn around or continue up the single track for another 3.5 miles to the end.
For the best (and most creative) burger in town, we recommend Backdoor!
For a really tasty farm-to-table breakfast and lunch, Yampa Valley Kitchen is our favorite spot in town. They mix up delicious and creative fresh squeezed juices and cocktails (like the beet juice bloody mary) that you won't want to miss out on.
Freshies is always a good bet for a satisfying breakfast or lunch. Enjoy a cup of locally roasted coffee while you wait and request a seat outside if the weathers nice.
Strawberry Park is our favorite place in Steamboat to relax and recharge. There are multiple shuttle services that provide transport to the hot springs, visit the website for more information.
The Steamboat Gondola will no longer be running for scenic tours during our wedding weekend. With ongoing construction at the base area and on the mountain, we recommend hiking and site-seeing elsewhere. See the above list of recommendations for other things to do.
