In January, expect partly cloudy skies & wind in Cartagena. It is typically the driest month of the year, where daily high temperatures are around 87° while daily low temperatures are around 76°

Question

Is Cartagena safe for travel?

Answer

Yes. The grooms would not have chosen Cartagena if they felt at all their safety would be at stake. There is generally a heavy police presence in the touristy areas like the historic city centre, Getsemani, & Bocagrande areas. Like any big city, there are certain places you will want to avoid. Stick to the touristy areas, be street smart, stay aware of your surroundings, & leave unnecessary valuables at home & you are unlikely to run into any trouble.

Question

How long is the flight to Cartagena?

Answer

Nonstop from New York (JFK): ~4 hours & 56 minutes Nonstop from Florida (FLL or MIA) ~2 hours & 59 minutes

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

While our ceremony, cocktail hour & reception will all be taking place at Dreams Karibana, you are certainly not obliged to stay at the all-inclusive resort for your stay. There are many alternative accommodations available (hotels, resorts, AirBnB, B&Bs) surrounding Dreams Karibana, or further away (about 20-30 minutes from Dreams Karibana) in the historic city centre, Getsemani & Bocagrande neighborhoods. If you enjoy the beach, are looking to relax & unwind for most of your stay, but would still like to spend some time exploring the beautiful streets & sites of Cartagena, then we would recommend staying at Dreams Karibana, or a nearby alternate accommodation. If you prefer to be out & about & in the heart of Cartagena for most of your stay, but would still like to have some relaxation by going to a nearby beach, or take a day trip to the Rosario Islands, then we recommend staying in the historic city centre, Getsemani or Bocagrande areas. If you still can't decide, or would like to experience both relaxation & exploration equally, we recommend spending part of your stay at Dreams Karibana or nearby alternate accommodation, & the other part of your stay within the historic city centre, Getsemani, or Bocagrande neighborhoods.

Question

How many days are "enough" in Cartagena?

Answer

It depends on how much or how little you want to see or do, & how long your personal schedule allows for. If your time is limited, we think 4-5 days is sufficient to cover a good portion of the major sites within Cartagena. If your schedule is more flexible & would like to move at a slower pace, but still cover most major sites within Cartagena & its surroundings, we think 5-6 days is sufficient.
