Flying into Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. is easily accessible with three nearby airports and a variety of transportation options to get you into the city. Below you’ll find helpful details to make planning your trip as seamless as possible.

This is the closest and most convenient airport. Approximately 15 minutes / 4 miles from downtown DC. Transportation options include Uber, Lyft, taxis, and the Metro (Yellow Line) directly into downtown.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Located in Virginia. Approximately 40–45 minutes (without traffic) / 27 miles from downtown DC. The Silver Metro line provides direct connection from Dulles Airport to downtown Washington D.C. The Metro station is located at the airport and connected to the main terminal by a short underground walkway. Trains run approximately every 10–20 minutes, and the ride to downtown stations such as Metro Center takes about 50–60 minutes. Fares typically range from $2–$6 depending on the time of day, making it a convenient and budget-friendly option for getting into the city.
