The NYC equivalent is Pret-A-Manger. You will see these all over of the city. Organic, fresh coffee and sandwiches. They are everywhere!
NYC's version of a Wallgreens is Duane Reade. You won't have to walk more than a block or two to find one. This is were you go if you need anything that you would normally find at a CVS or Wallgreens
The city doesn't not the traditional street meters. Instead, they have a single unit located along the street that covers all the spots nearby. On the typical street parking signs you see hanging up, there will be a bright blue section with a 6 digit number. For example #103698. This will let you know that the street parking in that area is metered. Nearby on the sidewalk, you will see a pay station (called a muni-meter) with the matching numbers. You simply use a card or coins to pay at the station and put the printed receipt on the dash of your car.
