How we met

2009-2019

Ken and Annisha initially "met" via social media back in 2012 or 2013 through Annisha's younger sister Ashley (now Matron of Honor!) Ashley would occasionally post pictures of Annisha which would catch Kenny's attention. Although they were both single at the time, Annisha more so thought of Ken as her "little sister's friend Kenny" (I wrongfully assumed he was probably the same age as my sister which would make him 7 years my junior). Ken and Annisha eventually became social media friends themselves and every now and then Ken would message Annisha to say hello or happy birthday or to leave a compliment on a picture. Annisha certainly began to notice Kenny's sweet smile and caring disposition, but alas, she could not move past her bias of younger men lol. Fast forward to the summer of 2019 and Ken messages Annisha on Facebook and this time, the Lord intervened. Annisha happened to be out of town at a family reunion and sitting around with several of her cousins, she showed them the pics of "this guy Kenny" who mentioned he was interested in taking her out on a date. Almost unanimously, her sister-cousins looked her in the face and said "girl, you better go out with that man!" LOL! While their encouragement was helpful, Annisha was already convinced by that point that she was ready to meet the man who was so consistent over the course of the past 6 years! We exchanged numbers and made plans to go to dinner in August 2019. Did we mention that Ken and Annisha lived in different states at the time? This meant that he traveled up to Michigan to make this date happen. What Annisha appreciated most about her initial talk on the phone with Ken was that he stated his intentions clearly and without hesitation. To this day, they are firm believers that God moved on both of their hearts to bring them together. To God be the glory!

The Proposal

11.20.2020

On Friday, November 20, 2020, Ken arranged for he and Annisha to take "Christmas card photos" at a beautiful Downtown Detroit hotel. After surprising her with a guest photographer (Annisha's cousin Gilbert), Ken remained completely calm and cool as they wrapped up the photo session and planned to go eat a pizza and watch a movie. While traveling back to Annisha's house, she noticed that Ken seemed...distracted; but still never suspected anything was going on. Ken stopped his vehicle a few blocks shy of Annisha's house and handed her a gift bag which held a blindfold. Before covering her eyes, Ken asked her "do you trust me?" and Annisha hesitantly said "of course". They drove another minute and then Ken parked the car. He opened the passenger door and helped Annisha out of the car. Still not knowing what was happening, Annisha took a step and then Ken lifted the blindfold and instantly Annisha felt frozen in time. A moment and visual she will never forget, Annisha opened her eyes to see that they were at the park down the street from her home (now outfitted with lights, balloons and candles) with the family and friends of both Ken and Annisha waiting for them (with masks on!) to arrive. Ken even arranged for his good friend Jacob to serenade the couple on their walk to the gazebo. At that moment, Ken declared his love for Annisha in the sight of their close friends and family and dropped to one knee to ask for her hand in marriage. Shocked...amazed...overjoyed...Annisha gladly said yes. The rest of our story is to be written on October 1, 2021!
