How We Met

July 2005

Annie and Drew met a handful of times through mutual friends throughout high school and early college years with no remarkable connection formed, but that all changed in July 2005. Drew, vacationing with his family in New York, was invited on a trip to Lake Powell by his long time friends. As it turned out, it was a trip planned by Annie's family and these friends who invited Drew were actually guests on this trip themselves. Without this information, Drew accepted the offer and flew back from his family vacation. Upon picking Drew up from the airport in Salt Lake, and the day before departing for Lake Powell, Drew was told that they would just have to confirm with Annie and her family that it was okay for him to come along as well. Luckily Annie's family was welcoming, as always, and the stowaway was officially invited to tag along. There was an ambiguous period of denial of any sort of relationship, but they have since managed to agree that by July 21st they were definitely dating and that has been their anniversary ever since.

The Proposal

March 26, 2018

After many, many years, two cats, four universities, five states, seven jobs, and eleven addresses Drew finally decided it was the right time to propose to Annie. The chosen destination was Iceland on a glacier with the same close friends that invited Drew to Lake Powell, Mike and Nevada. After some close calls with airport security, a bag search, and very helpful TSA agent, Annie remained unaware of the existence of the hidden ring. Unfortunately, Drew's trials weren't over. Relieved to be through security, Drew accidentally forgot their other carry on at the security checkpoint. He ran back from the terminal and luckily was able to claim the luggage before suspicions arose. They were finally off to Iceland. The trip was going smoothly until the day before the planned proposal. The glacier trip, along with most other tours, was cancelled due to extreme winds causing hazardous roads. Nevada and Annie tried everything to book a new trip to the glacier contacting tour company after tour company and finally found one that was still scheduled. Annie, still in the dark about the plans, was very confused about why everyone was so set on making it to the glacier. The excursion did set off as planned, but a few hours into the drive, before reaching the first of several stops, the trip was cancelled due to the high winds, and the grand plan again fell apart. This was their final full day in Iceland and they had spent hours on the road. Drew had to come up with a new plan. With some liquid courage on board, they made their way to the Harpa, a beautiful opera house made of small shimmering windows right on the waterfront. Mike and Nevada smuggled in the champagne, and Drew's final plan went off without a hitch. Taking Annie by surprise with many exclamations of "What?" and "You're doing this here?" a yes and a ring were finally exchanged....
