Our story begins on a crisp fall evening, when, after charming chit chat on a dating application, our two love birds first laid eyes on each other outside a local watering hole on a quiet street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Our heroine grew up in the midwestern city of Decatur, Illinois, home to the world famous Krekel's burger and the original home of the Chicago Bears. After 4 years of college at DePauw University, which included a decadent semester abroad in the foothills of Umbria, Annie moved to New York to both pursue a career in book publishing and to find the city's most flavorful soup dumpling. Our hero meanwhile grew up on the Island of Long, a stone's throw from New York City and an even shorter stone's throw from the Atlantic Ocean. His love of politics took him to American University in Washington, while his love of pizza inevitably took him back to New York. Josh spends his weeks working for a sustainability nonprofit, and spends his weekends wandering the streets of Brooklyn and writing "how we met" wedding descriptions. Enter destiny, for despite their relatively different backgrounds, the two were immediately taken with each other. The rest of the story goes like this: A first date led to a second, the second to a third, a third to a fourth. Along the way Josh fostered a love of fishing and an understanding of competitive show choir, while Annie learned the value of both proper composting and dating someone who regularly makes candles. After two years of dating, the couple decided to move in together, making a home on the very same quiet Brooklyn street on which they first met. They still live there, surrounded by their 17 plants, as well as a near endless stream of reality television and NBA playoff games. On April 17, 2021, during a seemingly innocent stroll through Prospect Park, Josh asked Annie to marry him. She said yes. The result: A wedding, scheduled for July 23, 2022 in a place not far from Annie's hometown of Decatur.
