Friday, October 11th was a cold and rainy day in Waco, Texas… obviously perfect for a proposal! Annie and I headed back to Baylor to celebrate homecoming and I knew I had to propose in the great state of Texas. It was a busy weekend filled with family, friends, and events, so I decided I would do it organically and wait until Annie and I had some time alone. I told both of our families that I would give them a short heads up before I did it so we could all get together afterward and celebrate. We were leaving Annie’s family on Friday afternoon and I knew it was time. I was so ready to pop the question and I had been carrying the ring box in my rain jacket all day! I opened Annie’s car door for her and as I walked around the backside of the car I sent a quick text to a group message including her mom, her sister, and my mom, saying, “I’m taking her there now. Going to do it in about 30 minutes”. Well… turns out I absolutely blew the surprise by sending the text in the wrong group message… one that included none other than my soon-to-be fiancé. The worst part (or maybe best part) was that Annie read the message in the car and didn’t tell me!! We got to Cameron Park and I pulled out my phone to see if anyone had texted back. At that moment, I realized I texted the wrong group and my heart sank for a brief second. Annie hadn’t mentioned it in the car so I thought she may not have read it. Regardless, I was so excited and nervous that I couldn’t even think about that and I was ready to get on one knee. We walked over to a nice spot that overlooks the Brazos and I started to tell Annie all of the things I love about her while doing my best not to cry or faint. I got down on one knee and said “Annie Routh, will you marry me?” and she replied with a resounding “YES!!!” We had a long laugh about the text and sat for a minute to take in what had just happened. It was a moment I will never forget and I can’t wait to marry Annie!!!
