They met in Hilo, Hawai'i while Annie was attending UH Hilo and Ikaika was working for the University. At the time, there was a nightclub offering college night specials where they met in person for the very first time. Before the nightclubbing ended, Ikaika had asked Annie her plans for later and to his question she replied, "what are YOU doing later?" Ikaika, spending much of his time at the different beaches around Hilo, had Moku Ola or Coconut Island in mind for his next destination. Telling Annie what was on his mind, she agreed to join him at Coconut Island. They sat and talked stories learning more and more about each other. Before they knew it the sun was lighting up the sky...little did they know, this was the first night of forever for them two.

Ikaika proposed to Annie on Coconut Island in Hilo, Hawai'i where they first met; only 8 years later!
