How we met

Though they can't agree on the exact date, they met one night while Annie was out with friends after work. Jay was looking for a pool partner and asked our friend Will to play with him. Annie was planning on playing with Will next so she said, "Hey, what about me?" Will then said, "Why don't you play with this guy (Jay)?" Annie played the best game of pool in her life and seemed to impress Jay. By the end of the night, they had exchanged numbers and planned on going on date the following weekend. The next week rolled around and lucky for Annie, it was the best first date she had ever been on, enjoying good food, drinks and conversation throughout LoHi in Denver. Too bad for Jay, Annie is actually really bad at pool.

Building a Life

Land of Enchantment

About a year and a half into dating, Jay finished medical school. But before that, was the dreaded "Match Day." If you don't know anything about the match, just know that a medical student puts his or her top choices for residency into a list and an algorithm decides where you will live for the next 3-5 years of your life (not unlike the sorting hat from Harry Potter). On Match Day, they found out that once Annie graduated nursing school and Jay graduated medical school, they would be off to Albuquerque, NM- Land of Enchantment. It was here that they built a life together. They strengthened their friendships from afar, met new friends, took every chance they could to explore, and grew their love into a family (with their cat Myster). Before they knew it, four out of the five year residency had gone by and they were about to meet the Sorting Hat 2.0. Jay had been on the road on his away rotations and interviews for fellowship where he missed Annie so much, he realized he couldn't live without her. One day, he woke Annie up at 5 am to take her on a hot air balloon ride, something she had wanted to do since they moved to Albuquerque, in order to propose. Unfortunately, the wind was too high that day. Jay wasn't going to wait any longer, so instead, he made Annie's favorite breakfast and proposed on their back porch. It was perfect!

The Next Chapter

Sorting Hat 2.0

A few weeks after Jay proposed, Match Day (again) arrived. The Sorting Hat decided that they would be moving to Tampa, Florida in July 2019 for Jay's 1 year Arthroplasty Fellowship (where he will be further specializing on hip and knee replacements). Annie will be taking her ICU experience and hopefully become an agency nurse (somewhat like a travel nurse within 1 town). What happens after that you ask? According to Jay, "the world is our clam!" They will be exploring where they want to live over the next year and hopefully Jay will be receive an offer for his first career job after training, HOORAY! We would like to thank all of our friends, family and mentors over the last 6 years who have supported us, visited us from afar, understood when we've had to miss holidays and special occasions, and stood by us through this crazy ride we call our life. We appreciate all of the love we have already felt and the excitement about what's to come. We can't wait to see you in June and hopefully next year in Tampa!
