No one actually knows when or how we met, not even us. At some point, Anne and I just already knew each other. There was no handshake-and-hello; no swipe-right. We happened to be at the same Christmas party in 2015 and already knew one another. We ended up on the same party-bus to Charlottesville wineries in 2016 as friends of friends. I sent a lot of “can you fill in with my softball team?” texts in 2017 (to which Anne always responded, “Sorry, not this week!”) because we were officially acquaintances. Then, I was supposed to go out of town for New Year’s in 2017, but I couldn’t get my car started. Anne just happened to be walking by to go to a dinner party in my neighborhood and tried to help – because that’s what friends do – but we couldn’t get the car to start. I offered to buy her a beer for her efforts – because that’s what friends do – but waited six months to follow up on it. When we finally met up for that thank-you-beer, we knew things had changed and have never looked back. It’s been one adventure after another, and we are looking forward to our next and biggest. -Stephanie
