Weather

Weather: Our wedding will be right before the start of summer in New England, so you can expect temperatures in the 60s and 70s. It can get a bit chilly at night so remember to bring layers! The ocean temperature will be in the low 60s, so it's up to you whether you want to bring a swimsuit or not :)

Flight

Getting to the Island - flights

The closest airports are T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Warwick, RI and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) in Boston, MA. If you are arriving at BOS or PVD, there are a couple of trains that can take you all the way south to Wickford RI, or Kingston, RI, which are both ~ 20 minute drive from the Block Island Ferry in Pt. Judith. The Providence/Stoughton line on MBTA runs every hour from South Station to Wickford RI (https://www.mbta.com/schedules/CR-Providence/timetable). Amtrak Northeast Regional also has a train running from Boston to Kingstown every ~3 hours. There is also an airport in Westerly, RI which flies into Block Island! http://blockislandsairline.com/index.php/block-island-flights/

Train

Getting to the Island - trains

There are two options to get to Rhode Island or Connecticut (depending on your ferry of choice) by train. Acela high speed trains run from Washington DC to New Haven CT/Providence RI/Boston MA several times a day. Amtrak Northeast Regional travels in MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, and VA several times a day. It's a lovely and scenic ride!

Getting to the Island - Driving

If you are driving to the ferry terminal directly, there are lots of overnight parking options right by the ferry, ranging in price from ~$10-$15/day. I would recommend planning on getting to the ferry an hour before it is scheduled to leave to be safe, and generally they start boarding ~30 minutes before departure. Pt Judith: I don't believe any of the parking lots take reservations ahead of time, but there are so many lots that we have never had any issue finding parking. If you are bringing a car on the ferry, you must make a reservation for the traditional ferry by phone (https://www.blockislandferry.com/vehicle-reservations/) and arrive at minimum one hour before the ferry departs. New London: There are several parking garages near the ferry (https://www.goblockisland.com/common/help.aspx?page=walkingmap). More information about the parking options can be found here: https://www.goblockisland.com/common/directions.aspx

Ferrys to Block Island

Block island is 12 miles south off the coast of Rhode Island, so you will need to get there by ferry! There are two main places you can take the ferry from, Pt. Judith RI and New London CT. You can also take your bike on the ferry if you wish for an extra charge, and you can take your car only on the traditional ferry from Pt Judith. FROM PT JUDITH RI: The Block Island Ferry operates out of Pt. Judith RI. There are two boats - the traditional ferry is a one hour ride, and the high speed ferry is 30 minutes. The fare for the traditional ferry is slightly cheaper and the ride tends to be less turbulent. You can buy tickets online up until midnight of the previous day, or at the ferry terminal (but I recommend buying them ahead of time!). There is a snack bar/actual bar on the boat, but also feel free to bring your own food/drink for the ride. And it can't hurt to take some dramamine/motion sickness medicine 30 min ahead of the ride, which you can also buy on the ferry for a couple of dollars. Tickets: https://www.blockislandferry.com/buy-tickets/ Traditional ferry schedule: https://www.blockislandferry.com/point-judith/ High speed ferry schedule: https://www.blockislandferry.com/point-judith-hi-speed/ IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON BRINGING YOUR CAR ONTO THE ISLAND, YOU MUST BOOK A VEHICLE RESERVATION BY PHONE: https://www.blockislandferry.com/phased-in-vehicle-reservation/ FROM NEW LONDON CT: The Block Island Express operates out of New London, CT and the ride is just over one hour. Block Island Express schedule: https://www.goblockisland.com/Common/Help.aspx?page=schedule tickets: https://www.goblockisland.com/Reservation/Reservation.aspx OTHER FERRIES: Viking Fast Ferry: This one operates out of Montauk, NY, and there is only one time per day -- it heads to BI at 10 am and leaves BI at 5pm. Getting Around the Island

The most popular way to get around the island is on bikes/mopeds. You are welcome to bring your own bike but there are also plenty of bike rental options available on the island, as well as moped rentals. It is also very easy to get around by foot depending on where you are staying. We will also have multiple cars on the island and will be providing taxi services for some of the events. Additionally, some hotels have their own shuttle services. But generally nothing will be more than a mile away! In case you need it, here is contact information for some bike rentals and taxis: Island Moped & Bike (https://islandmoped.checkfront.com/reserve/) Beach Rose Bicycles (http://www.beachrosebicycles.com/) Block Island Bike and Car Rental (https://www.blockislandbikeandcarrental.com/) Aldo's Mopeds Inc.
