Acropolis
No trip to Athens is complete without visiting the Acropolis, the ancient hilltop citadel overlooking the city. Here you’ll find the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena Nike, and sweeping 360° views of Athens. Tip: Buy your tickets ahead of time (Acropolis & Slopes) on the official Hellenic Heritage Organization website to skip long ticket lines—especially in May. Early morning or late afternoon offers the most comfortable weather and fewer crowds. You likely have to buy them in advance as popular times do sell out online.
Acropolis Museum
Located at the foot of the Acropolis, this modern museum houses the original sculptures and artifacts found on the hill. It is an easy and must do in combination with the Acropolis if you have the time! Tip: Tickets can also be purchased online. Consider visiting the museum before the Acropolis for historical context.
