Things To Do
Shadow Of The Sentinels Trailhead
Walk through a stand of old growth trees on an easy, 1/2 mile boardwalk interpretive trail. I always take our out-of-town guests here. Be sure to stop at Birdsview Brewery for a cold beer and a burger on your way back to town.
Northern State Recreation Area
Historic, beautifully landscaped state hospital has been turned into a park with trails, and is located just outside of Sedro-Woolley where we live. (Johnny’s aunt Mary wrote a book about its history!)
North Cascades National Park
If you’ve got more time, you must visit North Cascades National Park - if only to drive through. Dotted with blue glacial lakes and rugged peaks, the North Cascades are unrivaled. Highway 20 is one of my favorite drives in the country (I’ve done my fair share of mountain drives!). Make your way all the way up to Washington Pass for some spectacular mountain vistas.
Deception Pass
Take a drive out to Whidbey Island to cross the breathtaking Deception Pass bridge and take a short hike on the state park trails.

Kaitlyn Janicki’s coffee stand and a Sedro-Woolley staple! Get the breakfast burrito!!

Taylor Shellfish Farms
When in Rome - get some fresh Samish Bay oysters! Taylor’s is known throughout northwestern WA and their farm is in our backyard. They’ve got a beer, wine, and food, plus their deck is literally on the water.

Stop on your way back from Shadow of the Sentinels.
Edison
The tiny town of Edison, WA is absolutely adorable!! It is one of my favorite places in the Skagit Valley. There are cute little stores, a great local coffee shop (Tweet’s), a taqueria (Mariposa), and a new pizza place and brewery (Terramar). Slough Food and the Breadfarm are also great.
La Conner
Bigger than Edison, La Conner is a great little destination with artisan shops and restaurants. Dinner at the waterside restaurant Nell Thorn is hard to beat.
Bellingham
The small, artsy, coastal city of Bellingham is about 30 minutes north of us and has plenty to do! Shop and eat in the Fairhaven neighborhood, and check out the Bellingham boardwalk.
Skagit Valley Food Co-op
If you’re as into natural grocery stores as I am, you can’t miss the Skagit Valley Food Co-op. Be sure to go upstairs to visit their mercantile, then take a stroll in historic downtown Mt. Vernon while you’re there!
Anacortes
Another cute touristy, coastal town!
