FAQs

Question

Are there any resources that can help me plan my stay?

Answer

Yes! You can find a ton of information at visitlaramie.org. In town, you can stop by the Laramie Visitor Center at 210 E Custer St. If you have other questions, you can also email us at annabrycewedding@gmail.com.

Question

Is there anything important to know about the climate?

Answer

Yes! Laramie is about 7,165 feet above sea level. There is likely much less oxygen in the air than you are used to. Upon arriving in town, you may physically notice the change in elevation. It seems that most people acclimate fairly quickly, but you may experience some ear popping/closing at first. The high altitude is most noticeable when exercising--keep in mind that you may feel an increased shortness of breath. One more thing to note is that many people report feeling a decreased tolerance to alcohol at this altitude (though we are unaware of any strong scientific backing for this claim, we do suggest that you take it slow). Laramie's high elevation also means that there is less atmosphere to block the sunlight, so you will probably burn more easily! Pack some sunscreen, especially if you are planning any outdoor activities.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

July in Laramie is often the most pleasant month of the year, in our opinion. During the day, the temperature is usually in the high 70 degree range (Fahrenheit). At night, the temperature ranges from high 40s to mid 50s. However, Laramie is always at risk of a freak snow shower/cold weather, so as Pete Pekins would say, it's best to be prepared! We recommend bringing a jacket and sturdy shoes (i.e. something other than open-toe sandals), just in case.

Question

How do I get around?

Answer

If you are staying in a house rental or motel near downtown, the wedding venue and most attractions are in walking distance. Otherwise, rental cars are available at the Denver Airport, or at the Hertz or Enterprise in Laramie. There are a few Lyft/Uber drivers in town, but this might change during the summer when the majority of UWYO students leave campus. There are two traditional taxi services--Laramie Taxi (307-761-9891) and Snowy Range Taxi (307-343-2323). The University has also established SafeRide, a free on-call transportation service available to the public (307-766-7433). During the summer, SafeRide operates on Friday and Saturday nights from 9:00 pm - 2:00 am. Please note that SafeRide will not pick-up/drop-off at specific locations in downtown Laramie--if you are downtown and need a ride you must walk to the SafeRide office located at 3rd Street & Garfield.

What are some good food/drink options outside of downtown?

Answer

There are many great spots along the stretch of Grand Avenue! Here are our most frequented: Niko Sushi & Steak - at the intersection of 17th and Grand, across from the UWYO dorms (our pick for sushi) Wyoming's Rib and Chop House - a steakhouse near the Hilton and Studio City movie theater, in the plaza at the intersection of 24th and Grand Dickey's Barbecue Pit - at the intersection of 24th and Grand (Anna describes it as "the Panera Bread of bbq") D.P. Dough - calzones galore located in the plaza at the intersection of 30th and Grand, plus they deliver and are open until 2 am (a student favorite!) Mingles - bar with arcade games and a pool hall, located in the Ridley's plaza just past the intersection of 30th and Grand
