What payment forms are accepted?

Many businesses only accept pesos/cash and do not accept credit or debit cards. We recommend exchanging some currency before your trip or withdrawing a small amount at the airport. Once you're outside the airport, you can exchange more money or withdraw pesos from local banks/ATMs.

While renting a car isn't essential if you're staying in or near town, it offers a convenient way to explore the local area and surrounding regions. Just be mindful that the roundabouts here operate differently from those in the US, so take extra care during your first few encounters until you become familiar with the local traffic rules.

Are taxis available?

Navigating transportation in Puerto Escondido is easy with the local taxi services. Taxis are clearly marked throughout the town and readily available. Please note that while ride-sharing apps like Uber are not operational here, traditional taxis provide reliable transportation. Sitio Taxi Service: +52 954 582 0990 Be sure to carry pesos, as taxi drivers only accept cash payments. If you need a taxi, we recommend calling the taxi service below. Keep in mind that pickup times can range from 15 to 45 minutes depending on your location and the time of day.

Can I drink the water?

In Puerto Escondido, we recommend ONLY drinking bottled water to avoid potentially getting sick. Tap water should not be consumed while visiting.

Does my phone work in Mexico?

Answer

Before traveling to Mexico, contact your mobile provider to confirm international coverage. Most providers offer service in Mexico, but you'll need to enable “data roaming”. Keep in mind that network connectivity may be slower and less reliable compared to your home coverage.
