It was May 29th, 2021, and Anissa missed her annual family camping trip over Memorial Day Weekend to attend the wedding of her longtime friend, Kaden Hersel, to his beautiful bride, Shelby Nelson. As she scrolled through social media, she couldn’t help but notice Shelby’s not-so-little brother on one of the groomsmen’s stories. Quite frankly, she thought he was very attractive—and made sure to let her friends know. Immediately following the ceremony, two friends (who are now also getting married—shout out to Ben and Sarah!) called Tanner over to introduce to Anissa. He had changed into shorts right after the ceremony, and Anissa commented, “I like your shorts,” to which Tanner responded, “Thanks, I’m going to wear shorts to our wedding.” The audacity of this young man… (Stay tuned to see if the shorts make an appearance... the wedding part is happening, just not on May 30, 2021, like Tanner jokingly suggested—after all, his whole family was already in town!) The night continued, and Anissa kept unironically finding herself in the same vicinity as Tanner. They bonded over their shared love of Rufus Du Sol and discovered they both lived and worked in Seattle—where Anissa was attending dental school. The stars kept aligning. They talked for hours that night, neither wanting to leave the other’s side, and Tanner asked if he could take Anissa on a date once they were both back in Seattle, to which Anissa giddily agreed. The following day, Tanner asked if he could stop by to say goodbye before leaving Wenatchee, where both of their families are conveniently located. He brought Anissa tacos from his favorite taco truck, and she taught him how to play cribbage (and unfortunately, he won). On Memorial Day, they had their first official date. They grabbed Pagliacci pizza and Fremont Brewing Sky Krakens (well, Anissa did since Tanner wasn’t quite 21 yet- she’s a Husky through and through, but she’s a cougar ;)) while watching the sunset at Golden Gardens Park. Tanner swears he thought she wasn’t interested anymore, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth. Anissa was leaving for a trip a week later, but Tanner asked to see her one more time before she left. They went for ice cream and watched the sunset again, this time at Gasworks. While Anissa was away, Tanner called her daily, and as soon as she returned, they made plans to hang out again. The rest, as they say, is history. They officially became a couple on June 23, 2021, and moved in together on July 1, 2023—just after Anissa graduated from dental school and 10 days later started her orthodontic residency. Tanner has been working hard (and putting in plenty of overtime) while progressing through his electrical apprenticeship. Though they’re both busy bees, they always make time for date nights and quality time—unless it interferes with their mandatory 8 hours of sleep. ;) On October 4th, 2024, Tanner popped the question at Deception Falls on the way to Wenatchee for the weekend. He followed it up with the most thoughtful celebration at Circle 5 Winery. Of course, this all came after hiding the engagement ring in his watch box on their shared dresser for three months. Every detail was thought out and executed to perfection; on brand for the 6’5” tough guy with a heart of gold. Over the past four years, Anissa and Tanner have traveled near and far together, Tanner’s cat allergies mysteriously disappeared, and the love they share has only continued to flourish as they have blossomed as individuals and as a couple.
